I have the aforementioned DTX 6371/05E Philips digital set top boxwas formerly used by ITV(Independant TeliVision), but they have sold off any they had left & I now use it to view free to air channels. It is(I believe) capable of web browsing. But the box is no longer supported, I found a small piece about it on the internet, which though interesting enough just didn't go very far. The box has; a 56k modem a smart card drive/reader? RCA audio left & right, RJ45? the ethernet one, the big telephone jack. serial 232. scart x 2 one in one out arial x 2 one in one out I think that's everything. I was just wondering if anything else can be done with it, & what can you do with smart cards? shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive,3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" os 8.1 , 12 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive Performa400(asleepintheattick) |

The smart card reader is for a Mondex card, that weird plastic card that supposedly replaced every form of cash transaction in some crappy town like Milton Keenes (no offence to anyone who might actually be from there!)The idea behind Mondex IIRC is that once you had a mondex card, everywhere, every shop, every phone, every taxi etc would accept it and it would totally replace cash transactions, but it never really took off as far as I know. The reason there is a slot in the set top box is so you can use your mondex card to pay for pay per view movies and online shopping etc... At least that's what it does on Pace set top boxes. I doubt a credit card would work in it! I supposed there is also the chance that special cards could be user to update the software in the box. -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube Edited by - Gothikon on 02 Apr 2003 01:57:11 |

hmm.... that RJ45 (ethernet) port might not be ethernet. The Apple STB had this innocent looking port. This is probably a direct T-1 connection or something. Broadband content and stuff could likely come in thru that port. 56k is for those ones who can't get a T-1 line in their homes ! GEE! how silly were all those big companies in the '90s... thinking that us! the :gasp: consumers would be able to afford T-1 lines into our homes. :drools: Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |
