How can I get my old collection of tapes transfered onto cd?

If I get sound into the mac, then can I record the cassettes using quicktime & then save the files onto cd & then will an ordinary cd player play them back?

They do howtos periodically in all the magazines about doing this for tapes and records, the one in MacAddist MacADDICT *winks* a few years back was exceptional. I wouldn't be surprised at all if howtos weren't available online, shak, try google.

I don't mind googling, though what do I google for? this can come accross as a little dim on my behalf...

Google for;

"how can I transfer sound from my old audio cassettes onto cd using my Quadra 840av or perhaps my new 7600/132"

Google for;

"cassette to cd MacAddict"

well I will try a few, & see what happens.

You'll be able to play back on (most) CD players if you 'save' onto CD as CD audio. You'll get about 80mins of music on 1 cd

more like: audio cd howto record

http://www.google.com/mac?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=audio+cd+howto+record&btnG=Google+Search

first hit:

http://www.ccs.queensu.ca/pubs/howto/macintosh/SoundCapture.html

edit: I tried a simplified version of your search string without the quotes:

how can I transfer audio cassettes onto cd

http://www.google.com/mac?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=how+can+I+transfer+audio+cassettes+onto+cd&btnG=Google+Search

. . . and got this:
http://www.macworld.com/2002/05/bc/31analog/

Don't ever feel like a dim bulb for ASKING questions, shak! NOT asking them when you're curious about something and aren't sure about how to go about searching for an answer is what separates the dim from the bright in my book.

Asking for spoon fed answers would be a close second to not asking at all, but we've been all thru that in a previous mis-understanding!

Good question comrade!
