Anyone remember how in the early '80s, a company called "Osborne" was around? Well, i think i know what happened to them. They didn't shut down completely. They just closed their doors in the US, and started selling computers in Australia (and probably other countries), before they were bought out by (i think) Gateway in 1995. They actually did make pretty good machines...i have a friend with quite a few of their 486s.

Yes, I remember helping a friend buy an Osborne I, back around 1982. It was the original luggable with a flip-down keyboard in the lid and a little green-screen CRT in the center. It ran CPM off floppies.

Its spooky that you should bring up the company becuase the founder, Adam Osborne, died just this week. The story that I read was that the company cratered when they announced that a new machine was coming out and everyone stopped buying their old machines. No wonder Apple is so tip-lipped about new product announcements.

I picked up a Osborne I from the dump awhile back, still have it but I need a power cord and some floppies to see if it still works.

Dumb question: Don't they use a standard IEC type power cable?

It happens to the best of us...

Everyone seems to think that all macs use weird power cables...

when the truth sometimes is that the black cords that come with P{EESSEEs sometimew work better than the ElectriCord ones we get with our macs... (LIKE NEVAH!!!)
