============ MAJOR LIBERATION OPPORTUNITY ============

From a Dell Press Release:

quote:
Last week, Dell announced another recycling program enhancement that enables customers to order home pickup of unwanted notebooks, desktops, monitors and other select computer equipment for $15 per unit. The online service is available now, and more information is available at www.dell4me.com/recycling.

Dell also is staging a five-city tour to help customers donate or recycle unwanted systems free of charge in Nashville, Tenn.; Charlotte, N.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Portland, Ore.; and Austin, Texas.

At each event, consumers will be able to bring their used computer equipment to a designated location for donation or recycling. By Sunday, April 27, Dell's goal is to collect 100 tons of equipment to donate or recycle. For more information, visit www.dell4me.com/recycling. Dell also offers business customers a complete range of reuse and recycling options, with information available at www.dell.com/assetrecovery.

See http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/corporate/vision_tour_environ.htm for exactly when and where.

I am sure that EVERY Macintosh that Dell gets will be DESTROYED.

I'd bet that one could liberate any Macs by visiting the center and either talking to the Dell people or accosting people as they bring in old Mac equipment. I'd also bet that the recycling company that Dell hires for this could be bribed into giving away some of the equipment to a motivated member of this army.

Happy Liberating,

G4From128k

Aren't most recycling companies willing to give you stuff that the Dell or whatever already paid for to be taken away?

I'd love to go there to do that, because I bet that there's even things like cubies and recent enough G4s in stacks and stuff to get taken away and forever condemned to... :sniffles: nothingness.

gee...now I want a g4 cube. To... Dell!

Actually, it depends on the deal the companies have.

For instance, a while back, Handspring had a deal where one could get a discount on a new PDA by turning in any old PDA, working or not. Some folks on the NewtonTalk list had the idea to approach the fulfillment company about purchasing any Newtons turned in. Unfortunately, the deal with Handspring stipulated that the units had to be destroyed.

Austin is not that far from Dallas. Only about 4 hours each way. It would take about a tank on gas in my truck, more if it is a good haul.

Anyone want to head down there and see if we can get anything. I dont see an email address to talk to anyone about it. But if nothing else we could stand in front of the gates and ask people on there way in.

Knowing Dell, they would probably sell anything useable to third world countries or something. Anything to increase their profit margins. After all, they use Indians to take most of their thech support calls. Besides, if somebody were going to pay $15 to take the equip. away, they wouldn't give anything of real value anyway.

Dell would be just evil like that.

Please keep the forum posts at 800x600! I like being able to read the whole post in a window and having the columns of my paragraphs a decent width.

I usually keep my screensize set to 800 by 600 (on the MLA) as I like to have my safari window small enough to line the edges of my screen with IM windows and buddy lists and the like.
