I have an iMac rev.a (the original, slot-loading model) which has a very strange problem. It's always messing up as the integrated monitor turns off and the power LED stays green whenever it needs to change resolution, shut down, sleep, or restart. I've determined that it must be a hardware problem as I've reformatted the hard drive, installed MacOS X (Jaguar) and started all over again. Also, I've tried all of the usual options (zapping PRAM, rebuilding the desktop when it ran OS9, getting firmware updates, etc.). Is the solution something simple, like replacing the CMOS battery, or could it be that the whole PSU or some other part needs replacing?

Just to clarify, by Rev. A, do you mean the bondi blue one, or the first slotloader revision?

I am just wondering if you confused slotloader with trayloader

I had something similar to this happen on a rev B tray loading iMac. It turned out that one of the capacitors on the power supply had overheated and failed. Replacing the capacitor fixed the problem.
