hmm check this out, this will be like that tv show "connections"

The Apple I and the Macintosh are related by more than just their parent company; they are related in processor family too.

Motorola developed the 6800 (no typo; the 6.8k) and then the team that developed the chip left motorola en masse for MOS Technologies. There they developed the 6501 chip, which was superior to the 6800 and whose pins were the same (translated: you could put a 6501 in a 6800 mobo and it would work.)

Motorola didnt like that idea and sued MOSTech. They responded by releasing the 6502, a 6501 with the pins switched all around.

The 6502 sold well, leading motorola to develop the 68000 to overtake the 6502...

The 6502 was in the Apple I, and a 68000 was in the Mac 128k.

Youv'e got to know that these are great stories.

Well computers have had funny, controversial & downright dodgy stories in thier past.

As I understand the 6501 was in the 800xl as well.

Lotts of early 8-bitters used the 6502. It was basically either that, or the Z80.

The 6502 was in the Commodore 64, for instance.

If you want to know some interesting stories about Apple's internals.... Check withthe Book .... AppleDesign .... This book is great if you want to know about the industrial design (physical looks) of most macs before the G3 era... (this book covers 9600, all the newtons, and the 55/6500)

You get to look at many of the conflicts inside of apple during those periods... and see what may have been. In alot of cases it's just as good or better than what was.
