WTF! My Apple /// post is gone

maybe its the MordorSoft Database f***ing up again, that would seem to be the logical explanation...

or maybe ~coxy went on a deleting rampage...

EDIT 1: This reminds me of the DC Comics series Crisis on infinite Earths from the 80's, when all the separate DC universes merged into one and all these old-school superheroes just VANISHED... i guess we've experienced the Crisis On Infinite Forums

EDIT 2: Holy crap! i lost four posts and my changes to my sig!

I think we should start a new 68kMLA that doesn't use a Mordor$oft database. ;)

Yes, it is. I tried to get on last night and all I got was that gay MS Jet database error.

MySQL is without a doubt the most stable, reliable DB out there, its what i use on my phpBB...

I havn't seen MySql go down once.
If we switch to that we won't need to switch of snitz and i think there are some mySQL import scripts.

We won't know for certain what happened though until our Fearless Leader comes to have a look at the carnage.

I must say, this is a real bummer, things have dissapeared, how many times has the damn database been down? I havn't been counting but I can recall at least 3 times.

methinks ~Coxy needs to either upgrade to the latest Snitz Forums or move to PHPbb.

Holy crap Batman.
Similar things happened to the " Aqua-man" site. They moved servers something like 3 or 4 times, had to change name to " Aqua-soft then back to Aqua-man. Now you cant get any downloads from them. Apple crunch time

Seems like everything is gone back to a certain date. Probably since the last backup. That means either switch DB or back up more often.Go to Top of Page

yeah, we should change IMHO.
We should continue hosting the old one however somewhere out of the way for reference and so on, however have all the topics locked.

We could all mirror the "older MLA" on any of our servers and link to the "new MLA" wherever there is the new one.

Hmm.... I think that if Coxy were aware of this thread it'd be great!

Why would we need multiple mirrors?

I don't think we need to change forum software. What we have works very well, except for minor glitches in the matrix once in a while. I think the main problem is in a couple of the .asp's and the calls they make to the database (error line 75...etc) This could be fixed I'm sure. Transferring everything to other forum software will probably cause problems that we havn't even thought of yet. A mirror would be a great idea!

my 2 cents

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation.

I don't think we should change software either, i think we should go from Access to MySQL, I'd make the forums faster to .

I don't think we'll change to a MySQL database anytime soon.
As it stands now, the entire site is run off the one process which serves the content you see via the ASP scripts that give us some trouble, but having to run more processes just for a set of forums when we're already paying enough for bandwidth is unviable.
