I posted this in the software section, but it looks like almost no-one has read it. So I'll give it another go. I'm looking for "Wordfinder" as made by Microlytics. It was a bundled part of into microsoft word 3 ( and possibly 4 ). The beauty of this program is that it could be set up as a independent desktop accessory. No need to open up MS Word to use it. Just a simple little programme that you could add extra words to. I know about excalibur ( yuck ) and of the many online Dictionary/ Thesauruses, but compared to this, they're useless for my writing needs. So over to you guys. Trawl ya hearts outSo long and thanks for all fish |

This was an interesting little research project. Here is what I found out - Microlytics is gone (web site down) - Word FInder was a pretty amazing app (doesn't sound like there is a similar dictionary/thesaurus currently available) - Word Finder was bundled in with Word 3 as a DA and integrated into Word 4 - Word 4 and Word Finder didn't work under System 7 unless you get a patch - Word Finder sold 6 million copies in various versions - From TidBits a short summary --- quote --- Dictionary DA With A TwistMicrolytics Inc. has come up with the perfect desk accessory for folks who know perfectly well what they want to say but cannot think of the word. The dictionary allows you to type in definitions and then tells you what words you might be thinking of. InfoWorld reporter Yvonne Lee gave an example of a user entering the words "doctor" and "bones" to obtain the result "orthopedic surgeon." The desk accessory, called Inside Information, includes unusual ways to think about word relationships, allowing words to be viewed as members of seven main categories and numerous sub-categories, using horizontal boxing, outline, or branching tree formats. The $119 program includes 65,000 entries and is based upon Word Nerd technology from Xerox. The online system will be converted to paper form and published as a book from Random House in 1991. --- end quote --- Your best bets: 1) buy an old copy of MS Office or MS Word V3 2) Check this site to see if they are selling the correct version of WF http://simplybargains.zoovy.com/category/software.software_communications.software_on_3_5_diskettes_for_older_computers/ HTH Kami

Go to http://www.hillmanminx.com It's called "Iswipe" I think the title tells you all you need to know. May you live long & prosperDefinition of Happy Confusion. A dog with two tails . |

I purchased a copy of Microlytis, Inc.'s "Word Finder" in the 1980's with my first 512 Mac - just an excellent thesaurus for the Mac. Even that word-smith William F. Buckley, Jr. endorsed it! Anyway, it's been sitting on the shelf for many years and I decided to install it on my iMac. The iMac does not recognize the floppy - thinks that it is a pc version. Then I tried another old Microlytics program I have "The Elements of style" (Strunk and White)... sane result. Does anyone know what the problem is and what I can do to sove it?

I found "Word Finder® Thesaurus" in an archive of mine. Appears to be part of Word 4. I'll keep looking. I know I have Word 3 somewhere. emaq123 SE/30 and system 6.0.8 Now we're talking POWER! |
