obviously those ARE NOT japanese charachters... they would be called "ASCII" charachters... a worldwide (mostly for arab style charachter languages like english) used on nearly all computers

Those were japenese caracters i typed on mac os x.

the browser does all the encoding. I can see the text perfectly in Japanese. I'm thinking now that the forum software dosen't have anything do do with it. I do have East Asian language support installed on my computer however. Many of you may not. I can see the text that i posted perfectly provided i have my text encoding set correctly. it will display as ASCII characters if i don't have the encoding set right though.

English isn't an Arab style language. English is a Western European language and this "Western European" character set is pretty much in everything.
