I think we should make a move to open the PPC section of the forums. The only way i think we should do this would be to limit it to Pre-G3 PowerMac's... I know this is the 68k Mac Liberation Army, but IMHO the PPC section would make a good place to post; the Lounge fills up rather quickly... just my $0.02 Master of The Grand Unified Theory of 68k-based Matrix Reality. i just think its time to push for that again, b/c i really think it'd make life @ the MLA more interesting...actually i think we should restructure the model-based forums to b fore general-topic oriented... i just dont like the way all that's set up. but i guess its not my call i love being admin in my own forum, where i get to call all the shots ------------- Master of The Grand Unified Theory of 68k-based Matrix Reality Visit http://www.kevcave.tk (my Forum) ...because no one expects the Spanish Inquisition! Maybe a "Forum Suggestions" area, placed at the bottom of the forums, would be nice. It could be a place of suggesting improvements to the MLA Forums, so that the mods could discuss the pros and cons and come to a resolution, along with more public input.------------------ Captain Z - Mobile Operations Commander 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 23 68K Macs Liberated Visit Captain Z's Starbase of EV Stuff |

I second that motionit's just like the war room, but with the war room, nothing EVER happens (or seems to anyway) and it's public, which makes the MLA a little less of the totalitarianism that it (is becoming more like the fritter sometimes) (hopefully will never be) Government, for the people, by the people, of the people Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

I think it would be a good idea if we limited it to the NuBus PowerMacs and the Performa 52xx/53xx/62xx/63xx (excluding the 6360) series machines. 6400s and 6500s are still quite useful, as are PCI PowerMacs.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7

There is a need for a foru to discuss the powermacs, esp the lower end powermacs. It does I feel need to be centered on Nubus powermacs. That said we are 68kMLA, & we dont need to encourage Power macs, so the new forum would perhaps be discussing how to make Nubus powermacs interact with 68k's. It is a kind of a network & or what use can 68k's get out of powermacs. Can 68k's borrow a bit of the powermacs power, ie:- cpu, memory etc. I plan to aquire a powermac 8100/110 & this will sit aside my 840av, networked together I will get the compatibility of running a powermac, with the added video capture of my Quadra 840av. I can't see the powermac making my 840av redundant, but having my 840av networked with a powermac would be usefull. shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive,3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" os 8.1 , 12 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive Performa400(asleepintheattick) |

Typically, for all my powermac-ish questions, I just head to the fritter. IMO, the MLA and the AF compliment each other, and I enjoy both worlds. a PPC section would be nice, but why bother adding just one more PPC forum to the world? I like the specific aim of this place, and people post more, answer quicker,a nd generally know each other better ona forum of this size. I don't know, I'm just saying check out other places, specially the fritter, before hand. Perhaps we could each have links on our own sides between the two?I do like the suggestion forum Idea, but I also think General 68k MLA news and Stuff covers that subject pretty well too. There may have to be some readjusting off things if we add a new forum of such, but the idea does intrigue me. ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? llama's idea where we were making more generic forum sections is great, I even have some ideas for things like this...."Multimedia" - discuss multimedia things that your macs can do "Education" - got any ways that you use macs to educate? tell us here... "Networking and Communication" - Get those macs talking, got a networking idea? question? it probably goes in here..... things like that;..... (anyone got any others?) It has been discussed before & is being discussed agian & will probably be discussed in the future, but at the end of the day this is 68kMLA, if you put a 68k into a powermac then thats fine, but if anyone wants ppc specifically then another site it is. Perhaps in the same vein as 68kMLA someone wants to start a LEMLA? sure, lets open a pre G3 PPC section. as we are moving to OSX our older NuBus powermacs especially will be left in the dust. I'm not saying that our 68ks are useless however... Quite the contrary. however i do feel that the PPC section which is here ANYWAY might i add! should be unlocked for all of us to share experiences and enjoy._________________ Leutennant SCCHICAGO HotLine:scchicago.homeip.net Website:http://scchicago.homeip.net Forum: http://scchicago.homeip.net/forum |

My 020 on this is that we probably don't want to encourage that much PPC activity here. Although I do most of my work on PPC machines, I like that my 68ks have a place that they can call home. I would fear that an influx of PPC-only members would lead to inappropriate PPC postings in the many 68k-only subtopic forums.I don't feel that 68k machines are getting left behind -- they still do everything they could do when the left the factory. Actually, they can do a very much more in the hands of the adventurous members of the 68kMLA. So, I am not sure that this community really needs to change with the times. On the otherhand, I am just an old stick in the mud who has never used OS X. hehehe... I think that an other 68k devices section would be a good idea.... expecially since it's the 68k forum....which is why I'm not too filled with wonderment about the idea of opening the PowerPC section... In fact, the only thing that I see the current little... "thing" is good for is for only knowing when the MLA was created... and that should be documented somewhere in an "about the MLA" thing if it's not already there.... heh i knew that post would set off a huge discussion...i think that in the coming years it will be every bit as important to preserve the pre-G3, "low end" PowerMacs... theyre pretty much obsolete now and i dont think itll be long before they start getting trashed in droves like 68k's... I'm not suggesting we start a Legacy PPC Macintosh Liberation Army or anything (although, if anybody wants to, ive got a forum we can use ) but i do think that they are going to start becoming rarer as the next couple of years pass... ------------- Master of The Grand Unified Theory of 68k-based Matrix Reality Visit http://www.kevcave.tk (my Forum) ...because no one expects the Spanish Inquisition! |

here's what i think... i think the lounge has worked just fine for posting about PPC stuff. It doesn't really matter, because we know what's up, and technically we are the 68kmla, so having a forum dedicated PPC sorta seems out of place... so I say leave it as it is, and have fun, I think that's more important than debating over whether or not we need to unlock the PPC forum.EDIT: somewhere in here ML5 said somethin about excluding 6360s... why? they're the same thing as 6400s (which you endorsed) in DT form with 1 pci slot... didn't quite understand that one. ________________ foetoid, that's (fee-toy-duh) http://www.foetoid.doesntexist.com Edited by - foetoid on 10 Mar 2003 22:01:53 |

well... see now i think Road Apples would be an excellent forum idea, all the Macs that aren't quite "up to snuff" with the rest of the 68kii (plural of 68k, for the uninformed )But apart from the "to PPC or not to PPC" question, i DO think that it would be better if we restructured the forums without the model-based forums and more general categories, with "Road Apples" being the exception... But for instance the section between the main forums (Lounge, Website, etc.) and the models, the one that has "UNIX on 68k" "68k Hacks" and the like, i think that is more of what things should be like rather than the models... but that IS just the opinion of one relatively-old-guy.
