I was replacing the CRT in my new SE/30 and decided to completely disassemble and clean the mac. I picked it up mainly because it has a network card in the PDS slot and I wanted to use it as a bridge to my laserwriter. When I got this thing apart I saw that the network card was just a little piece running parallel with the back of the computer. It was connected by a ribbon to a card inserted into the PDS slot. This card has what looks like another PDS connection on it, making it look like a riser card. Its also got an empty socket about 1/2" on each side. I thought it was an apple piece until i saw it said Asante 1991 on it.

Any idea what all this extra stuff is?

The part that mounts on the backplane is just an adapter for whatever kind of ethernet you need, sometimes two or three versions on one card, sort of a built in transceiver.

The PDS card is the actual NIC, the only extras would be the PDS passthru to use a second card at the same time (google: gamba2 for ifno) and a socket for a CoPro (for the IIsi version)
