I have an idea....at school we have some convertible desktop/minitower gateway systems that are pretty cool in their own way... I am sitting here wondering "why hasn't any of the MLA done this with their machines" and then I think "I should do this with my machine" this would really be a pretty simple hack, all i really see myself needing to do to make a pretty nice looking unit, is have a "base" or a set of feet that I can add to any of my macs to make it sit like a minitower.... I am thinking that this is a hack that requires a mac with a pretty bottom (Sorry Quadra 610, 650, and IIvx/vi Perf600 (not that I had any of those) I'm thinking that I'll make a base that either fits the whole IIsi, or just a set of small stand things that fit on the side.... Then, the IIsi becomes that perfect little thing that you want ID administrators to buy hundreds of anyone already done this? like the idea? want me to start building and selling these anyway? think I should just get myself a IIci? Actually, the Quadra 700 comes like that, without any modification needed. Its a really kewl case that can be used as a desktop that looks a lot like a IIci, or as a tower that looks sorta cool sitting next to a 16" Colour Display. -------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7

I thought the Q700 was like.... just a deskliving minitower because you can't really move the feets IIRC? or is it just the moved logo that I can't really get past?Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

Mine doesn't even have feets! Although it does have some suspicious looking slots on the bottom... But yeah, you can't reorient the logo. -------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7

hehehe... well this isn't any kind of hack where you can change the orientation of the logo or the drives... (building the base into a CD drive is a good idea though)it's just a little doohicky to make a good looking mac, look that much better. Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

My Dataline 475 can do that. It has its factory rubber feets for desktop orientation, and bottle cap feets for tower orientation. I like the tower config, since it is only 2.5" wideArtillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Keeper of the 68kmla Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org

yeah.... it's the kind of thing that you wouldn't mind hiding under near the rear of the desk and just "forgetting" about in fact...I have the AudioVision monitor with EVERY conceivable hookup a user would need (ADB and souind in/out) so that's just a pretty good idea hidden type minitower with just the monitor showing Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

how would I be able to make a more "pretty" bottom panel for my 7300... I'm thinking if I could do this and add feets to it, it'd make a good vertical computer to use on a ProjectorCartOfficial 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

Wow... I've been itching to replyto this one again and since I my other reply was *deleted* I mostly will be doing this as it's a *thing* that people think micro and minitowers take up less room right? Thusly so, if I turn the 7300 INTO a MicroTower (a beautiful one) I'll be able to use it in the new house, in addition to the PowerBook G4 and hopefully a server... It all depends what kind of space you have, some will fit better like in computer desks.-danny You! What PLANET is this! -- McCoy, "The City on the Edge of Forever", stardate 3134.0 ------- 68k Macintosh Liberation Army 68k Macs Liberated: 3 |

If I make it vertical, it's not on the desk, and if it's vertical on the floor also it's 'conserving floor space'see I plan on having a desk big enough to put the 7300 on anyway, but if I can save that desk room there's room for more than one computer on it and it looks cool Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |

I certainly am anticipating when I can get my 7300out of storage so that I can do this hack. In addition to vertifying the 7300, I want to install an 802.11 PCI card and go with a projector as the display. Then I want to make sure that it's all nicen'pretty on a cart that's just-so-perfectly sized. This will be an indoor/outdoor mac Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide |
