That's absurd, it was padded INSIDE A FREAKIN' PADDED CASE, insid a shipping box (more padding?) and it still looks like they took a wrecking bar to it! FEH!

With some epoxy, bondo and black paint it'll look cherry again tho!

Some disgruntled Postal Worker's favorite movie must be "Ace Ventura!"

Well, I was quite curious too, so I just crossed my fingers and fired her up... Only to get the dreaded 'Chimes of Death', after the startup boing. Sigh. I slid out the mobo, and found several small bits of metal on it, which may have been shorting some of the contacts. I replaced the mobo, but got the same response. Frankly, I was amazed that it was even giving me that much- it was making some aweful crackling/popping noises inside, so I gave it a rest. Next, I removed the RAM chips, and lo and behold, the damn thing fired right up! It's clearly still got some problems- the internal noises are still there, and the screen is rather more blurry/jittery then I'd expect, but, considering the beating the poor little beastie took, the fact that it starts at all is only a testament to the amazing design of the system.
I've got some pics of its starting up- minus most of the top of the case, which came completely off in my hands. It's quite a sight- the brave little 'puter, booting, against all odds, after what amounts to a lobotomy... I'll upload them later tonight, or tomorrow.
So, I'm hoping that Cats and I can get the $100 insurance money from CanadoPost- sure, the CC starts up, but I'd say it's rather more damaged then it was when it left Canada. Anyone have any tips for us, on how to get the dough?
Thanks, folks! I'll keep the updates coming...

I would be just ever-so-happy to come to your candle light vigil I would be quite sorrowing for your Color Classic.....

I think, that since you have PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE of what the thing looked like when you got it out, either SB could sue the USPS, or Cats could sue the Canada Post thing... who knows? maybe they'll fire one of the postal posties (.ME hopes that noone in MLA is from the USPS/CPS)

ok! now I am REEEEALLY TICKED OFF AT CANADA POST!!! they have delayed 10.1 from getting to me for like 4 months, and lost a 512K w/3 400K disk drives, and they never gave me a recept so I couldn't collect the insurance on the thing... I even gave them the shipping number, and they denied that it ever existed, and now I owe clown boy 50$ (I'm sorry, my parents are stingey... IT'S NOT MY FAULT! DON'T HATE ME! PLEEEASE!!!)

by the way... YOU SHOULD SUE THEM!!! especially if they deny that the thing was ever shipped, and won't give ur insurance back!!!!canada post may be faster than USPS, but they sure are not better at shipping!!

Btw, SpaceBoy, if you want to read a feelgood, article that really does promote the physical strength of 68ks, have a look at this story about a Quadra 800 that went airborne...
