Okay, so today my girlfriend Courtney and I went food shopping (Trader Joes= yum!), and, when we got back to her house, we decided to clean out the fridge, which has gotten... uh.... rank. Anyway, I took a big sack of rancid garbage out to the dumpster in front of her appartment, tossed it in, and as I was about to turn away, something caught my eye... I looked closer, and spotted, under a crap-load of nasty looking trash, a BIG flat box with an ATARI logo on it! Excited, I pulled it out, chased the roaches off (I'm hard-core, you see...), and opened the lid... to find a COMPLETE Atari 5200 set- complete with foam inserts, controller, manuals, AC pack/video converter, and a copy of Pac-Man, complete with box and manual!
I've not been able to test it out yet, as the controller seems to be totally trashed, but the rest of the stuff looks pretty good. I can't wait to play this thing!
So, the moral of this story is... always look in the trash! You never know what you'll find next! Oh, and, uh, don't let some roaches scare you away from a good find......

fun fun!

why does everyone else find cool NIB junk in the dumpster?

.ME needs an ANS300 running rhapsody with an original apple studio display, being controlled by a prototype mouse and a complete Apple Adjustable keyboard...... THAT would be fun!

Someday I'll have my 7300 with an Apple MultipleScan 15 running Rhapsody with a full NIB Apple Adjustable keyboard running... and... well I might have a working CSW 2200 eventually :P

good find though

If only I could get an Atari, my old one broke I have like 50 cartridges for it.
I bet that Pac-Man Game Would go for like 100$ on ebay with all the manuals and such

5200 controllers were notorious for their poor quality and tendancy to break. Often you can fix them up however. Get yerself down to the 5200 section at www.atariage.com and check out the FAQ.Go to Top of Page

An Atari 5200 is a way cool find & you can fetch a bit of money for that, or you can play games on it which is great fun, cheap carts & easy to set-up.

I used to have a pile of atari consoles, but in my early years of soldering, they became unfortunate PCB desoldering test subjects. I was only 8, so I didn't really know they were anything important. I think I killed at least a couple 2600's. We used to have 90-some game carts, but my idiot dad tossed them.

I used to have an Atari 5200! Some lady at a grocery store was going to throw it away when my brother got her to give it to him. He ended up giving it to me, but I later paid him back by giving him my Intellivision.

My brother in-law gave me a 2600 to sell for him on eBay, but he wanted $50 for it, and it didn't sell. I'll have to look in the box I threw it in to see what else there is with it, but if someone thinks it's worth $50 and wants it, drop me a line.

I have a 520ST, two 1040STs and a TT030. I still use the TT030 from time to time. Wonderful machine for its time.
