I just won and paid for THIS!

Why a Netgear MR814 and not an Airport Base Station 2.0/Extreme? Well, the Netgear gets 500' indoor range vs. the Airport's 150', has four RJ-45 LAN ports instead of one, and cost me only $82.25 vs. $150-$200 for an Airport.

Whee! I can't wait to get my hot little hands on it...

Okay, here's a question: Do wireless USB adapters like this one work for Mac/Jag? I assume that it should...and all I'd need it for is wireless printing (yay!), but I just want to make sure before I shell out summo' cash.

well where some of you live... with 802.11b (airport) you could probably get 4 or 5 wirelessly connected broadband nodes or whatever... free for you to use... I'll come and live with you so that I can take advantage of the airport card in my TiBook1000 sadly though... it's only the 11 Mbit one :-\

keep in mind you then need a access point that has the technology to do 54MBPS...

I have just gone wireless too. I found a basestation (a new but %#$@#^% MordorSoft MN-500) at a garage sale on Sunday. After a painful configuration process, I am now writing this message in iCab on my untethered PB 190cs. This finally proves that Buffalo AirStation 802.11b cards do work on 68ks!

Only fly in the oinment is the fact that I cannot get AppleTalk working over the wireless link.

As I discovered while continually laying and rolling out my 30m PhoneNET cable down the hall every time I wanted to unify the network. If anything, I betcha that flat cable would be even worse, that stuff gets twisted like you wouldn't believe!

Every so often we'd roll it into a straight line and spend half an hour untwisting the little b@stard.

We have "the tripwire" -- an occasional, highly temporary 5m ethernet cable that stretches across the room at about 1" off the floor (We're too cheap to buy a longer cable that could go around the room). I had to tie pretty colored ribbons around it to keep both the wife (and associated SAF) from plummeting to the floor.

no you don't.... You can use a 54mbit card on an 11mbit network, or the other way around just as nice methinks...

802.11G is compatible with the B revision...

This was at home...
The old lady is very particular about cabling, anything permanent has to be done properly with wallplates.

HOORAY! I got my MR-814 on Tuesday and it took a full day worth of calls to Netgear's tech support to get it working wirelessly. New out of the box the password provided by Netgear to configure the unit didn't work...and only after beign told "We don't support macs," by the first couple techs did I finally get a guy who told me you had to hold the reset button on the back of the router for 40 full seconds to reset the password to the default. In the manuall it said to "press" it, not "hold it in for 40 seconds".

But, anyway, it's working fine now. I'm going to test the limits of the range soon, see if I'll be able to sit out by the pool like I did with my 100' cat yarn.
