My old 840av stopped working & I'm pretty sure that it's somthing wrong on the motherboard. Power still goes through to the drives. Can I replace the 840av motherboard with the 8200/120 motherboard? I am mainly concerned with knowing whether the power supplies in both machines are compatible. shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive,3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" os 8.1 , 12 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive Performa400(asleepintheattick) |

No. Without replacing the PSU, the highest you can go is to a PM8100/110, because the PCI based mobos require a new PSU that has a 3.3v supply too, for the PCI architecture.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Schweeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!! the 840AV wins hands down anyway... the 8200 may be a second gen pMac... but it's still not as good in all of our eyes... and it's cheaper tio get the case and PSU and junk with it also isn't it?Official 68k videographer |

I'd steer clear of the 7200 and 8200 both are second generation powermacs and have PCI slots but they do not have the processor upgrade slot (they are upgrades but they simply aren't worth it) which is what makes the 7300 and 8500 and upwards so worth while. Also as other have said the board wouldn't fit anyway -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |
