OK, I was reading the VPC 6 FAQ, and discovered that it does not do anything more than SB16 sound, and crappy graphics. There are some features that I like, such as Windows apps minimizing to the dock, and the start menu being in the dock, so one does not have to look at the windows desktop. I am wondering if anyone has written any addons for VPC6 that let it use the mac graphic cards to their full potential, and also give better sound. (I am wondering this, because I want to be able to play Unreal Tourney 2003, if they dont release it for mac :P ) CCCLieutennant Commander (Pronounced Leftennant) 68k Macs Rescued: 2 Pluses, a 512KE, a Classic II, a Q650, a Q660AV, and a MacII Contraband rescued: Power Computing PowerBase 200, a PM 8600/300, and a PM8500/180 Apple //s rescued: Apple //e |

3D support in VPC is right up there with a manned mission to Mars, unfotunately. Using VPC as a way to play games just aint gonna happen...remember, VPC only emulates a Pentium 2, though in my experience using Windows 2000 and RedHat 8.0 it feels about as sluggish as a Pentium 1.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 My Site: http://cine.sytes.net My Hardware Page: http://cineware.sytes.net Edited by - cinemafia on 11 Feb 2003 23:26:19 |

VPC is a waste of money when you consider that it only emulates a Pentium I, and that you can get a Pentium I and a Voodoo2 or something for next to nothing. Sure, a Voodoo2 ain't that great, but it's better than VPC's graphics.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

Running the software on the hardware it was originally intended for is always the best way to go (especially for anything sound and video intensive).Having said that what was the last PC hardware card every made for the mac computer? Did they ever get anything faster then early pentium 1's or 486's?

I havn't got VPC, but I wouldn't mind it cos then I could run Gemulator. quote: Running the software on the hardware it was originally intended for is always the best way to go (especially for anything sound and video intensive).
Running software on Gemulator is better than running software on Atari's hardware in my experience[:*] If only you all saw Selectric, you'd drool Someone send me a pic & functions of the latest best Apple file selector, can it be any better than os 8.6? it cant be any worse. shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive os 8.1 128 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive PPC7600/132, 4.23Gig & 500 Meg drives, 8X cd os 8.6 Performa400(deadintheattick) 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" |

Celeron uses socket 370, but a processor is prettymuch a processor at 500MHz reguardless of the socket. What might slow it down is any buffering circutry or long leads going into the socket. AMD is usually faster than Intel at the same clock speed. |

The last orange micro card had a 500 MHz G3 8MB VRAM IIRC.Most of the people buying VPC use it for business software which is it find for it was never meant for games. If you want any kind of graphics support you want Real PC, you can download version 1.1 or something from FWB's website for about 10 USD. It has support for VooDoo 1 and 2 graphics cards which were identical on the Mac and PC anyway. It's a bit old but if you really want to play emulated games it's your only hope. The Problem is the VooDoo 1 and 2 only support full screen 3D, the games which are least likely to run under emulation?! Apparenrly in light of MS buying VPC FWB are resurrecting RealPC and plan to add support for modern graphics cards. There have been a few reports of this on websites if you want to go look up more details. -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |

deja vu, yeah, a friend gave me one of those cases. The model number is TOWER! I hacksawed it to the ATX standard and it took like an hour because it's like 16 guage steel. The cooling holes never lined up, though and I ended up abandoning it for a smaller ATX case. It's got like 4 5.25" external drive bays, 2 3.5" external drive bays, 2 internal 3.5" drive bays and 2 more internal 5.25" drive bays! |
