well i got a Performa 630 with a blown PSU for free .... so i connected it up to an old PSU ... and now it is slightly less dead than before ... but not much .... now when you turn on the PSU (its the old style PSU with the manual on/off rocker switch) it spins up the HD and seems to access it (there is sounds from the disk that sound like access) ... and the keyboard LEDs flash on then off ... but there is only a crackle from the speaker and no picture on the screen .... any ideas what might be bugging it

it might be the motherboard... my 6200 was not a blown PSU... but it didn't work even after I bathed the motherboard... talk to MacLOver5 about that... it's great fun... does the PSU have the same kind of connectors? because that sounds like the original LC PSU... the PSU goes everywhere BTW you may not have enough different connectors flying out from it...

try pressing the keyboard power button after you turn the PSU on...

the PSU is from a old old computer (not a mac ... a tandy 1000 i think) ... which was dead .... but the PSU is fine .... all the connectors from the wiring hareness are conected up (plus some others that have to be ... like the -12v one which is on one of the ribbons) .... hopefully i will try the motherboard in a friends 5400 .... so i will soon be able to rule out that ...

Try a PSU designed for a 63x, 640, 62xx or 63xx Mac. Methinks the Tandy may not have enough juice to start the 630, because your problem sounds like the problem expressed by many i've heard who have tried to upgrade 630s with PCI based 6360 boards.

BINGO! my 1000sx had about a 60 or 80w PSU, which for a 5(?) slot computer was pretty pathetic, even by Apple standards . . . built like a freakin' TANK tho . . . it ran for YEARS as a fax server, maxed out with cards, I couldn't kill that POS!

Score:
Tandy 1
Apple 0
