A complete IBM PS/1 system, with it's printer and funky monitor and rumor has it, even documentation...

I'll post back when I know more

Oh neat! I don't think that's a model PS/1 that can support multemedia, though. Unless you consider beeping multimedia The only way to hook up a CD-ROM drive to those is external anyway.

Ah, I still remember playing Wolfenstein 3D on a friend's PS/1 like it was yesterday. It was really choppy, too! Tell us, what moodel is it? Is it the original 2021 or the newer 2121? Is the processor a 286 or 386?

You might want to put at least DOS 5.0 on there, too, as 4.0 kinda sucks.

well I think that it's a 286... where would I look for the model? Dos 4.0 is built into the ROM :) I like version 5... it's anicer number than 6 for DOS... 1 MB RAM, 30 MB HDD...

I'm thinking of upgrading it with RAM and HD and trying to run NT, OS/2, a nix, or Win95... I cant really run it wifout the monitor though... I may just try 95 on it, see it's slow and put NT 3.5 on it anyway

what kind of RAM would it take?

1. Put DOS 6.22 on there if you can. Its nicer than DOS 5.

2. It probably takes 30 pin SIMMs.

Have fun!

I have snotloads of 30 and 72 pinners that should still be functional after the move :)

by snotloads... I mean with a physical volume of MORE than my head at least... and my head is pretty big (just like my ego)

nah, dont put MSDOS on there, put DRDOS, it is not an M$ product, and it is still being developed, mostly for use of companies that need to use DOS to run specific apps.

Probably on the back or bottom. It should be a number like 2021-xxx or 2121-A82

If it's the 2021 it takes proprietary RAM that looks like this:
http://system.cfg.free.fr/photos/ps1_2011_7.jpg
or it might take DRAM!
The original PS/1 takes all proprietary parts unique to the PS/1. That's why it's like the worst IBM ever made. The newer 2121 takes more industry standard parts, so you'd be luckier if it's one of these.Go to Top of Page

ok... I'll look for the number very soonly... It's one that gets power thru the monitor... so I don't know that much about it...

I found where to get OS/2 on the internet... so I'll be looking into that :)
