Hey. Trying to burn a copy of 7.5.3 downloaded from Apple's site so I can load it on my 840AV. I'm using Toast 5.1 under Jaguar to burn it. The Quadra's not recognizing it though. Any help?? I don't need it to be bootable but that would be nice.TOM |

Any chance that Jaguar/Toast used HFS+ instead of HFS as the disk format? Also it could be just a simple case of a Toast Coaster (a fluke badly burned CD ) or some ugly incompatiblity between the burner, media, and reader. Have you successfully burned CDs from the Jaguar machine with that brand of media and read them on the 840AV before? Why 7.5.3?, This is out of pure interest that I ask. I run 8.1 & this serves me well enough but I have heard that previous os software runs faster. I want to install 7x on my other hard drive for alternative booting. 7.5.5 seems a good choice, being the latest update before 7.5.6 which actually began to slow things down, or so I've heard.shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive,3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" os 8.1 , 12 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive Performa400(asleepintheattick) |

7.5.3 is freely availiable from the Apple website, with the *updater* to 7.5.5, IIRC.~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

mac volume! That's what a partition on a disk (or a single partition disk) is called.jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

In OS 9, just mount the disk, select it in Finder, and do Apple-I (also known as Cmd-I or "Get Info: General Information..." under the "File" menu). The second bit'o information should be the Format. If the format says "Mac OS Extended" then the disk is HFS+, if it says "Mac OS Standard" it is HFS. Prolly something similar in X, but since I have yet to carry out my threat to get a new Mac, I don't have any Mas that run X yet.As to a bootable CD in Toast.
