I would like to try fvwm95 on my PowerMac 6400 running YDL 2.3 with known working GCC 2.95. I downloaded the source for the latest version of fvwm95 from sourceforge, unpacked it, and ran configure. When I ran make, everything seemed to go smoothly until it hit the taskbar module. The "Goodies" file in this module would not compile right; I got several errors about missing or bad targets and gcc failed with an Error 1. Everything else made fine, but fvwm95 will not run without the taskbar module. Has anybody else gotten fvwm95 to compile with YDL 2.3?

Hey oldmacman!
I'm glad to see that there's some other people in here who are interested in linux, too.

I'd love to help you out with this, but I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to linux. I've never recompiled a kernel before, and, sad to say, I've never even successfully compiled an application program. Have you ever done that? Somehow, I've always managed to get around that using kernel modules and RPM. Sounds pretty frightning and hopeless, though, to compile something as complex as a window manager. Good luck!

When you ran configure, did it give you ANY messages at all? I'm sure you would have thought about that, but thought I'd point it out anyhow.

What is fvwm95 designed for? I know with things I have compiled, certain locations did not exist because of the type of *nix i was running. Perhaps that is one of the problems. If so, there is a way to change it, but I am a beginner in changing things that far. Compiling things and whatnot makes sense, but editing the base files is for another day!

Other than that, I cannot think of anything else to do/check off hand. ope that may help a little.

I was wondering that myself, so I did a Google search. It's an X window manager that looks like Windows 95Go to Top of Page

No errors or anything, if that's what you mean. It successfully created all of the Makefiles.

It's supposed to run on Linux.

Any Linux? I am assuming so, but you never know. I have often seen sidenotes saying that you have to change this or that to get it to work with a certain kind of linux flavor. The only thing I can guess to that extent is that whatever it needs in terms of directories (missing targets), aren't there.

The fact that it made all the makefiles fine though is what is stumping me...
