lets save that for another post.

My Stylewriter 1200 worked very well & I have been vpleased with it. The ink cartridge ran out & so I bought another. Now that I have tried printing again from my 840av it keeps coming up with excuses for why it can't(wont) print, with the following:-

The serial port is in use by another application.
The size of paper is smaller than that needed in the printer.
The Stylewriter is out of paper.

Appletalk is "innactive"

next problem:-

I used to use Apple video player, then I downloaded some more video viewer software & now Apple video player refuses to work giving the following sicknote from it's mother(Apple):-

apple video player requires version 1.4.2 of the video start-up extension to be installed.

Version 1.4.2 of the video start-up extension is installed.

Yeah I tried that, that was the first thing I tried, though really the only thing I've tried.

A few other desperate measures:

1) Zap the PRAM (take out the baby first )

2) Trash the printer's prefs

3) Trash System Prefs, MacOS prefs, and finder prefs

4) Check your extensions. Could that new video viewer have added its own benighted extension that is conflicting with Video Start-up?

5) Walk menacingly toward the computer with a Torx driver and soldering iron.

I did it,

I considered rebuilding the desktop & zapping the pram but I forgot how u do that.

So for the printer, I left the printer switched of & tried to print, I got the message that the printer is not responding, please check that it is connected to the modem port!

I never had the printer connected to the modem port & in chooser it clearly showed it connected to the printer port.

Anyhow I told chooser to connect the printer via the modem port & then I told chooser that I changed my mind & that I wanted it connected via the printer port & now my printer is working again(cheers from the crowd?).

Apple video player? I have fixed that, well I appear to have re-downloaded an incomplete or corrupt or earlier version of Apple Video Player. I trashed it, but then I had to put the working version of APV(Apple Video Player) into the correct folder for the alias from the Apple Menu to work.

Cheers for the advice, but I ended up fixing it by myself, but I do find that if I post here it concentrates my mind & helps me to solve problems.
