have you ever noticed how much it seems as though the number one problem facing consumer macintoshes... seems always to be dust, it's just a thought though... I should think especially that with the LC/perf/quad 630 model...

do your performas have dust?
is there a way that I could stop a mac from aquiring dust?

Yes, you are right with what you said about the 630 picking up a lot of dust. Some of the 630s I've worked on at the Shop have often contained more dust than computer! However, if you treat it nicely and clean it out often, like i do, it won't pick up as much dust. Mine hardly ever picks up much dust, amazingly. The pizzabox LCs also have a problem with dust, but not as much as the 630.

Hmmm.... I wonder if Mac dustbunnies (iBunnies?) could have anything to do with the cleanliness of one's room??

My 6100's power supply got so full of dust that it overheated and died. I finally realized why my dad made me keep a dust cover on our Apple IIgs all those years.
I too have noticed the dust problem with a 630. Keeping a cover over the vents when it's off might help, but if its running all the time there's not much you can do.

Not a chance! putting a cover on only helps keep dust from settling on the outside, which is another issue entirely. If you leave it off, you have a SLIM chance of having a couple of the entrapped dust bunnies escape at night!

When the machine is on, it spends all its time acting as an air filter.

That's why I took those shots of the rug rat's MacDustFilter! When his entertainment center croaks from dust ingestion because he hasn't done basic maintenance, he'd better not come running to me for a replacement!

PAF wants me to have an outside "shed" thing from one of those intermodal shipping containers... modded slightly to my liking of course... ahh 20X8X8 feet of wonderful computer shopness
