OK, so I'm half cut and feeling a little smooshy (I will be drinking lots of water later Kady ) but it occurs to me that I really like the 'feel' of the MLA.

It's a great place to come and put forth stupid ideas for others to comment on - no one will bag you for a silly concept and in fact you'll probably only get encouragement.

I notice a few newbies creeping in for advice on new purchases on old Macs, and it's great to read peoples opinions - it can only help them spend their dosh wisely (and I hope they stick around)

It's uncommon for idiots to post retarded comments - we've had a few trolls through here, but not too many. And while there's a few lurkers, they seem to be very polite (speaking of which, is Lurker still around anywhere?)

The place isn't over-moderated, and the moderators don't try to stand head and shoulders above the rest of us like they're something special.

There's been no flame wars. (Good grief, what's going on? Doesn't anyone strongly disagree with someone else? Where's -Ace?) And not very many threads get so long that you can't be bothered reading them.

My only regret is that it's strictly 68k. Personally I think there's room to open up the PPC section for anything 9600 and under - lets face it, we're talking about them anyway in the lounge. We'll never lose the 68k focus, but PPC's are fast becoming obsolete too (our kids will have a G4-MLA forum one day)

Great vibe, great place, whadaya reckon?

cheers (in the literal sense)

There has allways been that conflict of the lowend powermacs are discussed, but as you said yourself we do discuss them in the lounge so why not keep it that way?

am I a lurker, troll or well I quietened down a bit & I think this is good for both me & 68kmla.

Yeah. I've got a 5200CD that I can't even use because it's so slow. Then again, those were pretty slow to begin with.

I vote for opening the PowerMac forum! A lot of the Non-G3 PPCs, especially the 603 based Performas and the original NuBus Macs, as well as the 7200s are now starting to become hoplessly obselete. Anyone remember the pallets and pallets of 7200s that Flash posted piccies of when this place first started up?

<shameless, yet related advert>
www.genecompforums.tk
has NuBus PPCMLA (and performas)
</shameless advert>

if this place has a PPC section added... what's to keep people from adding a PEEEEEESSSSEEEEEEEEE section? or a Sun workstation section? or a SGi section??

just a thought.

I like the feel here too... it's the feel that people like you...

. . . just what I need, encouragement!

The only incineration I recall was when Stryder and I had a 'lil discussion about my position that creating too many specialized forums would "dilute" discussion.
That's why I still think it's a good idea to keep PPC padlocked, those discussions keep the lounge a hoppin' place, moving them will likely have an adverse effect in terms of overall activity levels.

I totally agree. I bail on most Mac forum sites simply because of the point you made above. There is one site in particular (and I see many of the long-term/helpful posters from that site are here) that I just can't stand anymore. It's a shame, as it was once a good/helpful site. Why the moderators exhibit that perverse megalomania -always posturing to all the posters is beyond me.

on the topic of PPC, all the original PPC stuff, in my opinion, is worse than all the 68k stuff. It's worthy of being thrown out the window... just my opinion, but whatever....

lol

ppc is bad yeah we know but that is the point, they are so "low end" if this place were LOWENDMAC then yes we could discuss them, now personally I suggest that we source the really dodgy low end ppc's & upgrade them to 68k status, now that would be worthy of a new forum.:-)

*chokes on coffee, trying to laugh-snort-sigh all at the same time . . . :rolleyes: *

Dunno what site you could be talking about . . .

*wipes coffee and apple turnover crumbs from keyboard *

. . . but some places try to ensure useful information is exchanged in a mature, efficient, on-topic manner . . .

blah . . . blah . . . blah . . .

I like to have fun doing much the same thing as inefficiently as possible so long as the process remains entertaining . . .

Actually, it's probably due to the fact that most of the mods are AWOL.
