Just woke up and got online to check mt email and low and behold...there's new PowerMacs! Well, speed bumped PowerMacs, anyway.

The newest is a dual 1.42GHz with FireWire 800, Airport Extreme, 128MB Geforce 4 Titanium, 120GB hard drive.

Also new is a single chip 1GHz PowerMac, for only $1,500! I'd take that over a dual 867, myself.

Also, the cinema displays are cheaper!! The 23" is now only $2,000 and there's a new 20" that's only $1,300!

YAY!

I also read some tests taht (apple of course) had put up saying that the newest one was a good bit faster than a 3Ghz P4?! Anyone know the truth here, I wanna get some other tests in before I start boasting again

The cheaper monitors are VERY nice, perhaps my folks will let me upgrade to a 17" LCD now...

The top end may well beat a 3 GHz P4 in some obscure tasks but it's still a nice boost in performance. I still think the old dual 867 i s better than the single 1 gig.

IMO the best thing is the price drop on LCD screens. They are getting back to reality! By the end of the year they'' probably have the lowend down to 500 USD!

GoMac says that they run only at 1 GHz (the new ones) but I like it... and think that the addition of a single GHz model is a good idea... for those people like me who barely give our G3 233MHz an excercise with anything but SETI

Too bad airport extreme doesn't conform to the 802.11g standards...
Wait, there aren't any solid standards! Can we keep our frickin pants on here, apple? The new hardware might not work at all with .11g third party base stations!

Oh well, firewire 800. Fast ram. Cheap mosmilrs (well, cheapER...)
