Hmm, i was looking through the service documentation for the PowerCD, and the little piccie of the Australian vesion of the power adapter looked a lot like a PB100 series adapter. I looked at my adapter, of course to check how many amps it was. Its rated at 7.5VDC, 3 amps. The PowerCD will run at 7 to 11 VDC at 1.2 amps. Now, here is the really dumb question. Can I safely use this adapter with the PowerCD without risking damage? Does the player just accept the 3 amps coming in and die, or does it somehow step it down to 1.2A? Thanks for your help, and yes, i realise i sound very dumb asking this.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

All that means is that your PowerCD will draw (probably less than) 1.2 amps off the 3amp transformer. If you made a suitable adaptor you could run "two and a half" PowerCD's off that power supply.So long as the voltages, and the +/- polarity match, you can use *any* transformer with *any* device. With the amps, what you have to make sure of is that the device does not draw more than the transformer can handle. For example, if your PowerCD draws 5 amps, and you only have a 2 amp transformer, then you run the risk of blowing up the transformer. hope that helps cheers Flash! 68k ParaMedic |

1x = MUSIC + it'll do a PhotoCD slideshow as a standalone unit (sans CPU)!and it's a backup drive for (slow) Data use . . . . . . anything more is overkill! :rolleyes: jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

Absolutely! <Coot Rant> These young whippersnappers have never had to load System 7.5 on to an old Mac II using 800k disks. They should be grateful for CD-ROMs of any speed. A 1X CD beats loading software from umpteen bazillion floppy disks like we had to in the olden days. </Coot Rant>G4From128k by Day: Mild-Mannered Engineer and Trapeze(tm) Artist by Night: Colonel of Truth, Justice, and the Macintosh Way Reserve Officer in 68kMLA Cantankerous Coot Contingent & User of the Hockey Puck Mouse of Radial Symmetry |

Back "in the day", when I first got my first IIci, I installed 7.6 using 800k floppies-my 1.4 meg drive had just died, and the serial ports were fried, so I borrowed a drive from a Mac II. Since the floppy install files were 1.4mb, I had to use stuffit to make 800k segments out of the 7.6 installer. I only had two 800k disks to do the entire install (around 50 segments). That was a long night Artillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Keeper of the 68kmla Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org

Sure you can, you can boot a recalcitrant pooter off of a CD in one paleolithic caddy loading sluggard and install a different OS onto the HDD that balked at booting/installing on its own.1x and 2x CD's are wonderful things . . . and next to free! . . . well . . . mine WERE free! However, the good money I paid for the PowerCd Refurb (my very first CD) was one of my better digital tool investments. jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

I got a free 8x external cd drive recently. I was really pleased. It came with 2 compact macs and a bunch of other fun random crap. I haven't tested the drive yet.
