it goes like this, i get a performa 630 (or a 6500)
and mount it's motherboard on the bottom of a large ANS700 sized case, along withthe sub and the PSU

above it, I mount a VCR, and several popout "modules" that are game consoles, built into the machine (sorta) with little doors that have openings for cords.

yes, there is LOADS of spare room in this thing, and there is a purpose for that, I do plan on having a machine that I can open, and want room to work inside there, also

I want the case to be strong and big enough to hold the 17" monitor I'm supposed to get with it, that way it can be it's own entertainment "stand" also...

there'll be a little AV selector knobs on the front, and I'm also wondering, where should I put the mac's own floppy and CD drive? near the top? at the bottom? or could I omit a CD drive entirely?

I know that I want the little IRbox to be showing......

I'll need a TV/FM system and an AV system. I will be needing a remote control, and a surefire way to raise PAF...

too bad my parents probably wouldn't want me to try building in one of their DirecTV recievers... THAT would be SO cool!
although... I could try to get a used set, and recieve that ONE free channel... just to demo that it can work....

I'm lucky, the 6500 I'm being lined up with, for free, has 10/100 ethernet, but only a /250, so sadly, no AV junk at all... not even the tuner...

let's see... now to decide what goes into the MediaBOX... I want the playstationa nd the nintendo, a VCR, used DSS, and a pippin and a Sega Saturn :P and a dreamcast... but saturn is cool low cost alternative (there's a place around here that sells loads of saturn and genesis games... should have gotten some)

also, have a few extra AV inputs on the back... just in case someone feels the need to add something else to the supercool thing...

is there any Infrared operating ADB keybaords that anyone knows of? or maybe just 2 boxes and I can use a normalmac one? or should I aim for really long ADB cable...

did I ask where I should put the CD and floppy drive yet?

With a 6500 250 you could probably get SNES9X running well and forget about the SNES and if that would run you can just emulate the sega mega drive and everything that came before those 2 consoles.

I've had a simillar idea for ages although mine involves a broken powerbook G3 with s-video out. It would be very very small, especially with the keyboard removed. I'd swap the CD drive for a DVD and chuck in an airport card. Fair enough it wouldn't play Pippin or dreamcast games but I could emulate a PS ONE effectivley.

All I need is a broken laptop, oh and the money to buy one!

I have a regular NES... and thanks for pointing out, that I could just install emulation... it was late and I wasn't thinking at all

I'd still consider a satellite, VCR and those newer systems though :)

well now that I don't need to put in all those extra ones....

that idea that you have gothikon is a good idea too, does it involve removing the screen? I've always wanted to do that to a mac laptop whose screen wouldn't work.

I can't remember which G3 laptops, it's either Wallstreets, Pismos or Lombards, any way one or all of them have s-video out. Laptops with broken laptops are much much cheaper! Using the S-video out you can hook up a TV or whatever.

A friend of mine runs an IT support business and was going to give me the name of some repair shop where they have tons, apparently they also get a lot of broken FP iMacs where people have pushed the screens too far back! Anyway the specialise in PC's and only have one guy working on the Macs so they are happy to sell them in parts. I think you can get a G3 laptop without screen for around 200 USD which isn't bad, of course you could get a beige G3 but it would be hard to get the case as small.

In fact you could use any iMac up to the 333 but the G3 laptops are still smaller and have better graphics.

Either way I have 0 disposable income at the moment, actually that's because I have 0 income!

SNES9X isn't as cool, though. You can't use a genuine SNES controller, and it gets a tad jumpy at high res (at least on my old iMac 333)

Well if you had a real snes you wouldn't get high res would you

You can always get a USB card and one of those console controller -> USB adaptors if you really want a SNES controller.

By using emulation you alse eliminate a whole mess of wires, you'd want at least 2 controllers per console wouldn't you? You also get rid of a power switching nightmare and don't need as many cables going to the screen. The only real downside is not being able to use original carts, but if you own the cart you can legally download them. Unless they are really rare they are almost all online and although I you probably need a PC the console cart -> computer hardware is not that expensive. IIRC

actually... the only nightmares I can think of having during this project, are the ones that will occur when trying to route all of the cables effectively.

I'm building in a surge protector, and having 2 outside accesable outlets, this way anything I build *in* stays *in* and anything that i add outside, isn't confused with other things.

also, I mean for thisthing to go in a case about as big as the AppleNetworkServer 500/700 that IS a HUGE case....

I would use a real SNES, but we're moving away from my friend who *has* one.... We have a NES and a PSX though, and they should work fine

this 6500 also has a Zip drive... I'm wondering if I should build that into the unit? or putit in my 7300 instead

OH BTW, my dad approved me getting the 6500
so I can have it
