I've just downloaded all the files I should need to set up Debian on my Quadra 605 which I picked up this afternoon. Hopefully I'll have it running soon and then I'll want to set up apache.

So what extra files do I need? Where do I get them? Any good links for this info?

Basically once I have linux on here I want to be able to set up virtual hosts for each site I'm working on and that's about it. Oh apart from the extreme case hack!! (more on that later though)

If it makes a difference I will be download files on my Cube and transferring them via CD until my ethernet card arrives.

alas, this IS a question for Danamania... but I believe that ML5 and I determined that she is MIA...

I think that there's some sort of... "command" you can put in to tell it to install apache from the CD drive... like
get apache CD
or something... I dunno though
the 605 would make a great little web server... the thing has like... a 30 watt PSU

Well I was hoping she would be able to answer but as you say she is MIA. Something to do with the bush fires? Is she near them?

I probably could install it from a CD drive but i would have to have it on a CD. Are there different version of Apache for differents distros? I doubt it but..

My bigger concern is this baby version of linux I have (from the links on Dana's site) may not have all the libraries etc I need to install the good stuff. I also have to download everything on my Cube, transfer it to the iMac and burn it to CD to get it on the 605. Hopefully my parent's will post the PDS nic and multi meter over, then I can sort out the 605 and figure out what is wrong with the 3.3v regulator in my PCC.

ok, the procedure to install anything from a CDROM is thus:

1) Mount the CDROM to a directory in the root, ie:

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /cdrom
replace /dev/cdrom with whatever your cdrom's ID is, and iso9660 with whatever format your CD is.

2) switch to the directory you mounted your CD to

in this case, cd /cdrom

3) copy the gzipped tar file of apache to your home directory, and then:

gunzip <apachefilename>.tar.gz
tar -xvf <apachefilename>.tar

replacing <apachefilename> with whatever the filename you downloaded is.

then find yourself a good walkthru for compiling Apache's Source. I have forgotten how, as I have been papmered by KDE on my box, heh
