Hello, This is my first post after reading 68kmla for several months and rescuing 4 LC III, 2 LC475s, a Performa 575 and a Classic II..i also got a PPC 5400/200.

I recently obtained a copy of A/UX but after looking on the internet found that the LC III i planned to put it on is incompatable but all the quadras are. I looked on ebay to see what they had but they didn't have any Quadras for sale that were decently priced, Just parts.

I was wondering if anyone had a Quadra 800 or higher sitting around that they would like to send me...I will trade it for any of the above or a //gs or //e...if there's anything else you want i can probably get it form my school as they are always throwing away stuff.

I would be willing to pay S&H or pick it up if you're in the central Illinois area. Thanks.

Not all of the Quadras are compatible with A/UX. The Quadra 605 does not work, and neither does any machine without a full 040 processor.

neither do any of the AV quadras... as COOL! as that would be... to have AV functionality in A/ux... sadly the AV quads don't work

now that I thinkof it... Why doesn't the LCIII run A/UX... it's an 030... and you can add a 63332 can't you? just about any ethernet card you can add should have a 68222 FPU slot on it :-\

the 4 and 575 (almost same mobo IIRC) you are out of luck on though...

the video hardware on the LCs and avs is not supproted, that is why it does not work, and A/UX was primarially intended as a server enviroment, so there is not any need to have an a/v machine as a server, or use a low cost colour machine ethier.

and keebs, double posting is usually frowned upon around here, we have a small enough community that everyone peeks in on all of the forums here.

hmm... I didn't see keebs do a double post... although...

clinton... you *may* be thinking about me... I thought about the additional info right after the my original post... and then I just replyd again because it was relevant and the reply link is easier to find than the edit button...

hmm... I didn't know that the LC video was unsupported... ohwell... I would think that A/UX would be perfect as a workstation OS as well as a server... and those LCs make great little workstations

Hello,

I got a Apple Workgroup Server Card wich I assume is intended for a Q900/950/WGS95 and/or WGS 9150.

I've not had the time to test it yet.
Do I need the A/UX software?

IIRC, installing the AWG Card means that you can *only* run A/UX.
It does give you an extra SCSI bus, though.

I got a Q950 to play with a few months ago, and it has the AWS card in it. I put in a second HD and isntalled A/UX on one drive, and OS 8.1 on another. I found that neither drive would start up when connected to the AWS card's SCSI ports, but that both would boot and be usable when connected to the motherboard SCSI. Interestingly, the monitor could be hooked up to the motherboard monitor port, or the monitor port provided by the AWS card, and the situation was the same.

I understand that the WGS card adds a bunch of ports, but would it also boost the speed of a Q950?

Not AFAIK, but the extra SCSI bus it provides is Fast SCSI, is it not?

Yes, it does provide Fast SCSI.

Yes, my card got two SCSI port:
Channel A for ext. SCSI and Ch. B for int. SCSI.

There is also 3 memory sockets:
A for TAG upgrade (filled)
B for 128 k upgrade (filled) and
C for 256 k upgrade

I guess there is information on the net about this card but I've not checked yet as I've no use for it yet (not for sale).
