MIDI should work fine. The ability to play MIDI, and a good software synthesizer, is built into QuickTime.

They can, search the forums for posts by markymark about mpegdec to find the threads discussing the issues in detail.

I use Mpegdec on my PB540c and it works fine, as long as I run it in mono singlemix mode and do not do anything else whilst it is playing. all in all, I think it'd run better on a Q650, or an AV machine for it's full '040
I am still looking for a place to quote me the price for de-integration of chips, so I can get a full '040, possibly 40mHz in place of me LC040.

anyway, good luck with mpegdec, though you really need an '040 to run iut, though you can get by with a fast '030 as long as you downsample your tracks by three.
