Sorry troops esp maclover5 I knew all that but only after I pushed the post button. All you guys were having a good time telling about your liberations that I sort of got carried away. Yes my machine does have the TV card and video capture stuff which I have used heaps together with my old video camera. Not especially 68k, but does my multiscan fussyness mean that its a throw away i.e too expensive to fix . I hav'nt not got a quote as yet?

I'm not sure about your MultiScan. Unfortunately, every bit of reserach i've ever done on this monitor suggests that the model was a lemon, and there have been a lot of people over on MacAddict Forums reporting problems with colour tints and out of focus displays. There was a repair program run by Apple a few years back where you could get your display fixed for free, but it stopped in mid-99. I'd say you should either try and get it fixed (hopefully its nothing too serious), or get another monitor.-------------------------- Give your dreams a chance.™ - Apple in the mid '90s Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

If they fixed it under extended warranty it WAS a lemon in the sense of having a disturbing frequency of either a design or manufacturing defects, but the fix could be an easy one. Is this one of the cold solder joint plagues?. . . sounds like it. jt

Hey Mate, I've been a member for a while even though I don't post much. But you will find other Aussies here. I am doing my best to spread the Goss on this site. Bill Gates must nash his teeth thinking why doesn't anyone come up with a similar site for his clunkers. Such loyalty can't be bought, or swapped. Personally, I'd like to think that Aussies find Mac's appealing because it reminds them of their rebel status; of mateship and their healthy disrespect for big-brother authorities. What more could you want except a stubby ( Beer-can ) holder on the side of the monitor ? Thanx Folks

Aussie beers are "tiny" as you put it because we are the driest continent on earth. two thirds desert. So we brew our beer to be double strength to make up for the lack of H2O. Canada on the other hand has too much water. Gee how to get rid of all that excess water? I know, let's make bigger cans of watered down beer. Back in Oz we call such stuff "shandy's" Ie Lemonade with a touch of beer. Hee-Hee We should have a piss-up one day.

OK well you've given them a good explanation for the small form factor, shame they aren't double strengh though. In one of my last jobs before I moved here we had a lot of Australians. They hadn't been in Scotland for long and were used to going out and having X number of drinks so they assumed they could have the same number of drinks when they went out with us, forgetting they were, what twice the size?!, needless to say they were always the first to "fall over" amongst other things. Where am I in Australia. Guess ? Here are a few tips. NewsCorps HQ's are here. Rupert Murdoch started his empire here. Prime Minister Tony Blair went to school here. One of the major writers for Buffy & Seinfeld Lives here. Carn the crows mate. The world drinks our booze (especially the wines),MadMax was filmed here. George Lucas is currently here too. Having been to Scotland and seeing Aussies fall over, I think it has something to do with Gravity. IE from "Down-Under" the magnetic influence in our heads forever draws us closer to the southern pole. So we topple over. Conversely, it expalins why I see many English, Irish & Scottish lads falling all over the place when visiting Oz. In their case, its the attraction to the northern pole that causes the faling over and not the booze. As to my age I'm really really old and fart a lot.Thanx Folks |

Right that would be Sydney then?I though Tony Blair went to school in Edinburgh though, at least Secondary school, well at least when he wasn't running away from School. IIRC he went to Fetes College where my friends dad is a teacher. Oh well, I'm actually in Melbourne, so a 68kmla meet will have to be postponed for now, although I'll probably be popping up there later on in the year. -------- LC 2, LC 3, Q605, Perf 638, Colour Classic (160 603e) 6100, 7200, PTP 225 (Quad 604), PM 9600, G4 Cube |

Let me know if you're coming up - perhaps a few of us could do some 'testing' to see if we can topple over towards the north pole (as a tribute to our northern colleages) - - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |

Slightly (OK very) OT..Why is it that beer in OZ is drunk in small (half pint) glasses? Someone told me its because of the heat and if you had a large (pint) glass by the time you had drunk half it would be warm. Its not to do with the strength surely? You can have strong lagers in pint glasses? Or is all that just a load of baloney? |

Well for a start a schooner (as we call it) is not that much smaller than a pint - and lets not forget that you guys also drink half pint glasses too. Generally, when in the state of Victoria, pints are served. If you ask for a schooner then the bar tender figures that you are from out of town and serves up middies - just to be a bastard! The small glass is referred to as a 'middie', and it is roughly half a pint anyway. There is a little bit of truth to the 'small glass so it doesn't get warm' theory, but I tend to think that it is more to do with the fact that beer was (and is) a popular drink with the ladies in 'the olden days', and back when everything was sexist they were served smaller glasses (more ladylike to drink out of I guess) Bob Hawke, a former prime minister, used to hold the world (speed) record for drinking a yard glass. How Aussie is that! - - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |

I can honestly say that I have never drunk a half pint of beer or cider, nor do I ever remember seeing someone ask for a half pint. I have seen the half pint glasses used for soft drinks and mixers though. quote:

I'm in St Kilda and IIRC most of the drinks I've seen were half pints/ in them small glasses. The comments about heat are plausible, although a lot of people order pitchers which come with a few glasses, although your first glass may still be cold by the time you've finished it you can be sure that everything in the pitcher is stewing. Catching up in Sydney sounds like a good idea, My g/f and I have a vauge plan for going up there some time this year. I was speaking to someone from there yesterday and apprently Sydney has at least one bar with Cider on tap!! Gothikon You wild guy. "DEEP FRIED PIZZA" . Sounds like a serious Gut Buster. We had a craze In OZ a few years back where people were DEEP FRYING MARS BARS. wrapped in batter. Up in Queensland ( the Deep North to the USA's Deep South ) they dip bananas in batter and deep fry them too. Actually Pizza with Pinapple are pretty neat too. Your giving me the munchies big time just thinking about itSo long and thanks for all fish |

Re: Fried Mars Bars.. Maclover5..."how much beer" ? ..well it depends on the recipe. Turns out it wasn't an Aussie invention. ( Thank goodness ). It was invented in Scotland....Home of the original Mac's..( at least in name ) & yes it involves beer...There are numerous web pages listing it as a Scottish invention..so I guess it must be true. As for rum, I guess you could put rum into it or pour some over it to make it into a flambeau of sorts.

Yeah I was going to say Deep Fried Mars Bars are ours too! You can still get deep fried Mars bars, my parents nearest chip shop has a special cabinet of different chocolate bars for deep frying. Bannanas are old hat!IIRC it actually started with Deep Fried Christmas Pudding. Radio 4 heard about it and got old ladies to try it out on the Radio, they put squirty cream on aswell. Actually, 'driest', meaning the continent with the least liquid fresh water, would go to Antarctica.
