Ok i got bad news and good news. Ok the server i was going to buy fried, the poor 7100 mobo had a little too much power go through it and it blew the motherboard so bye bye server. Now for the good news! I'm getting another server a 7500, the only thing is its abou $20 more and i wont be able to pick that up for another 2-3 weeks. But even more good new by that time I will have even more money than I need so I'm buying a G3 400Mhz for $110 thanks to MacAddict Mag. So a G3 server I think will be better but hold out it will be worth it all.....

What is this server going to be used for? The 68kMLA site? If so, I've got plenty of strong hardware collecting dust at the moment- like my PowerMac 7100/G3 266, or my iMac 333.
If it would be for the good of the people, I could consider loaning/trading either system...
Just a thought...

Hey again-
What hardware is the Hotline server currently running from?
What kinda 'net connection?
TiMacLover- you mentioned in your origional posting that you'd been trying to get a PM7100 mobo working. What were you doing with it that resulted in it's premature death?
Lastly, I'd be happy to lend some horsepower to the effort, but there are two small problems: a) I don't have an always-on fatpipe to the net, as I'm stuck with (semi-crappy) Earthlink dialup service at the moment, and, with the way my finances are going, I'm going to be stuck with it for a good long while (unless someone out there wants to sponser a shiny new cable modem! For the good of the people, you see...).
Secondly,.... oh, wait, I can't remember. Forget the second one.
Later!

Hmmmm... maybe I could set up some kinda server. I have all kinds of macs hooked up to my cable line (300k), (with a static ip, btw) and a 24 port hub, so I could maybe coagulate 4 macs (my g3, quadra 700, 6100, IIci) for a total hd space of 20 gigs or so. Is this feasible? I have run a hotline server before, and the people that connected to it said it was very fast. (downloads and uploads around 100k/sec) My g3 runs all the time, so it could be the server....and connect the other macs via appletalk to the g3 (it works, and its fast enough too). I don't know how the other stuff would work tho, such as the ip address and whatnot. I'm pretty new to that stuff.

Oh, ok, I didn't realize that it was for a HTTP server...

HTTP server...well, I can't do much there... All I have is my Quadra 700 running MacHTTP. It works good, but not if there is heavy traffic.

Maybe the new server can be a HotLine server and an HTTP server.
I have both running off my dial-up.
see below.
