I went to my local thrift store...

got 3 PB540c's with power adapters for 5 bucks a pop
got a deal with the guy, any 5 Apple items for 10 bucks each.

So I got...
1 6500
1 8100
1 19" Apple monitor
1 17" Apple monitor
1 color classic

and he threw in a color classic 2 cus it's the holiday season.

All of it works and I'm one happy camper.

Great haul! Run Linux on the 6500 with the 17" monitor, and OS 8.6 on the 8100.

What a Haul!!

Pull the 6500 apart and make a power colour classic! You have all the parts you need you could make an excellent machine. I'd probably sell 2 of the 540's you should be able to get quite a bit for them enough to get some good upgrade for the other machines.

Wish I could find a haul like that!

WOW!! I must have been sleeping on that day, I wish I could make a find like that. I know a guy that has a 3 story bldg. full of computers, many of which are Macintosh. Unfortunately he's hoarding them I can't get in to see what he's got. I know he's got some good stuff cause he told me about some of it. I bought a Color SW 1500 and some memory from him, but that took me weeks to get that. I'll have to keep trying though.

GREAT FIND!

Yeah, I know the guy at my local thrift shop... he goes to my school and he basically HATES Macs and thinks they're useless.... Lucky for me cus He lets me have any of the Macs for really cheap.

He's got a few 540c, 520c, 6500, 8100, something with a tape drive, quadra, compact macs, and then he also has huge monitors like 21", 19", 17", apple scanners, he had some bondi blue iMacs too but I missed out cus those went fast.

For every Mac he's got he's got 10 PeeCees.... so its crowded in there. Sometimes when he gets a whole bunch of stuff, he lets me walk out with whatever I can carry...

I'm trying to sell one of the 540c here on this forum... and some other stuff... If you guys are interested let me know.

I never find powerbooks laying around in Indy. Indy does not seem very Mac friendly and the pickens are slim. I guess I need to try the Bloomington area. I have just about given up on the thrift stores in this area.

Well, living a little over 100 miles south of you, I have found that Indy is much more supportive of the Mac community than my own LLC(Local Large City)™. Bloomington, on the other hand, I remember more as a party town, so I can't speak of it Mac friendlyness.

Anybody know of a good thrift shop or 2 in the Northern VA area? The local Salvation Army says that they "don't take computers" and I'm never able to get such great deals!

Anyone, anyone?

Thanks.
