My guess would be that a physical or logical problem with the floppy has corrupted the file that Word is trying to install. You could try a custom install, if table support is an optional item. But if the file in question is part of the core installation, I think you're SOL.

If I recall correctly, Word 6.0.1 was all in native-PowerPC code...that could pose a problem when trying to install it on a 68k computer...

Actually MS Word 6.0.1 runs on both a Power Macintosh and a 68K Macintosh, When these disks were working properly this was running on my IIci and my Performa 6400.

candyPunk: yes, Word 6 IS 68k, but I just thought that the particular 6.0.1 was a PPC optimized thing...

As I recall, Word 6 for Mac was universally reviled as a complete kludge. Why would you want to install it?

Word 4 or 5.1 were much better.

Or get Mariner Write (marinersoft.com). Lean, mean word processor; great Mac-only company.

It's not that bad. I have MS Office with Word 6 for Mac on 33 floppy disks. Word is quite useable, and there is a download from Microsoft that will enable it to work with newer Mac and PC Word files.
