But will your 7300 run IRIX? And does it come with the excellent AV apps that come with IRIX? And does it have an incredibly speedy framebuffer? Or built-in SCSI-2?

I DON'T THINK SO!

I'd take an Indy over a 7300 any day of the week.

If the video camera is an IndyCam (standard with the Indy), it won't work with anything other than an SGI.

hey cinemo, I am sure that the camera does not work on anything that is not an SGI indy. It is no better than a quickcam, just your typical webcam, with not much quality. I am still thinking of bidding, though I do not know if I can pick it up. we'll see if the auction goes well.
anyway, I think that you'd benifit from having an SGI machine too. those things render like a badazzmofo. Perfect for animation for filming.
]anyway, I'll see what happens

Okay, I might be a little late to the party here, but there's a couple of things you might wanna consider before bidding on this thing.

First off, the Indy is the lowest of the low-end SiliconGraphics workstations. The design dates back to the early nineties, and unless you get one with a higher-end CPU (175-200 MHz R4400 or 150-180 MHz R5000), it won't be a speed-demon in any sense of the word. Most Indies come equipped with rather paltry R4600 CPUs.

As for SiliconGraphics' famed speedy video, the Indy lacks in that department, too. Any reasonably recent PowerMac will run circles around it without even breaking a sweat.

That said, if you know what you're in for, an Indy makes a nice UNIX machine. I should know, I've got two of 'em. :)
