Can't play VCD on PSOne without the serial adapter mod & the VCD decode card.

Whats wrong with using a Mac!! Most PM's can play VCD's fine, haven't looked in to it on 68k's but there is an MPEG1 PDS decoder card that fits most performas and probably some others, I have one lying around somewhere.

Just a though, couldn't the 68k MP3 player take advantage of this? They;re not to hard to find for a good price. Performa's make pretty good entertainment centers otherwise with all the add in boards, TV Video in FM etc if they could play MP3's well that would be great.

yeah... I wouldnt want to mod the "main playstation" anyway... the PS2s can play DVD... and we have a regular DVD player... plus... I haven't got any VCDs! OH NO!!! :gasp:

and if any 68k should play a VCD... it's a Q840AV which I know shakti has one...

Last I checked http://www.lik-sang.com had them sometimes.
with the serial port PSX (500x-750x series) it just added on in the back.
As to a message board, try http://www.cdrom-guide.com there's plenty of info there.

I read the installation instructions & it mentioned soldering, I got scared & ran away.

Yes My 840av may play vcd's but how to make it do this I still dont know.

I just had to swap hard drives & at the moment I have a 1 gig booting up & a 1.2 gig. The 1.2 gig had quicktime installed & alot of other important apps. Everything still runs( & Internet access seems faster without serial speed installed) except for quicktime & no matter where I tried to run it from it just wouldnt run, so I had to download it again, about half an hour on my dial-up & it took about 6 attempts & roughly 1 whole day ;

this is from the time I decided to download till the time I had downloaded & installed.

I tried to play an mpg file that was the reason I downloaded quicktime but no it didnt want to know.

I cried when I get the "application that created cannot be found", I tried really hard to install the easy open options, is it just me or are apple mac progs instructed how to behave & what files they are allowed to utilise by the mac os.

Any moaning I do about the mac os is for this reason, If I get a file on mac or pc I know 4 or 5 progs that may run it & try them all in turn, when I get a file on the mac often I dont know what it is, where it is or what prog will utilise it nor how to get said prog to utilise it.

The mac os makes me feel like a thicky.

I obviously have some difficulty in the way I think about computers with regaurds to the mac os.

Pc's are a pain in the backside, basically cos they want to "babysit you" (the interminable "expert install" option springs to mind), but I just overide what the pc wants me to do & do it my own way.

My Quadra does some things & the things it does it does very well but getting it to do other things just seems more trouble than its worth.

I suspect the reason you couldn't play the mpeg file is because mpeg support in quicktime only works on power macs and not 68k's (unless they have the mpeg PDS decoder card)

Soldering the 900x and PSOne is not fun.
I had some Stealth V mod chips and I took out my Stealth II chip from my 900x and put the V in and fried it. I then fried another one, and finally got it to work in the 3rd. A 750x series has much easier solder points. PsOne is just as bad. I won't evn attempt at my PS2 at this point until I find a reliable no swap chip that also diables macrovision.

I was lucky enough to meet a very cool guy abuot 2 years ago, back when I worked a "X-Treme Gamers", a local mom-and-pop game store...
Anyway, this guy had just gotten outta the Armed Forces, where he'd been stationed somewhere in Western Europe. It seems that, in the region where he was, the only options as far as videogames and movies was to buy the locally-made pirate versions.
Anyway, he was upgrading to a PS2, and didn't want his old PS1 or the (pirated) games for it anymore, and since the store couldn't buy/sell such a system (for clear legal reasons) so I got it, along with about 200 pirate games, and 20 or so VCD movies. The system has the VCD add-on pack on the back, and works pretty well.
Lemme know what you do!
