Posted the following on 'fritter. Feel free to ignore this if you've read or responded to it there. -- Got ahold of a Sony Multiscan 15sf Monitor. Had been sitting around for some time.
When I plugged it in to AC, it turned on--made that degaussing/charging up sound CRTs make, and the power LED on the front panel turned green (full power on).
Soon after, maybe 5-10 seconds, the power light went off. Since then, the monitor seems totally dead--no green power light, no orange "standby light," no self-test image, no image when connected to a computer, just dead.
I've tried two different AC cords and two different outlets, all of which work fine with my various Macs, other monitors and peripherals.
So,
(1) Is this thing just dead, period?
(2) Did I somehow kill it by plugging it in?
(3) Does it sound like whomever unplugged it the last time did so when the monitor was turned on? (On the other hand, it has what feels like an electronic Power switch, rather than a mechanical pushbutton, so wouldn't the power switch setting be irrelevant?)
Basically, I'm just hoping against hope that one of the more hardware-oriented folks here might know of some relatively simple or cheap solution to this problem.
TIA,
Matt
