Ok, got a 50GB Barracuda drive a few weeks back on eBay. It's a ST150176LC. Got it for about $90.00 or so(I forget exactly). It's going in the 950 I'm getting fixed up. Seemed a good size for the price, and fast, but not so much it'd be wasted(20MB/s is the fastest SCSI made for Nubus, this fits just about perfect). Software, everyday documents and some extras such as sound files might use up 6-9GB. I'm planning to use it as a back up for the other computers, but even after that there'll be some space leftover(I don't usually backup my in-progress video files). Any ideas what constructive things I can do with the extra space?Otaku; Specialties in Anime, Macs, Storms Liberated Macs: 6 In progress: 10 |

web server, email server, mp3, hotline server, retrospect and back EVERYTHING up. hmmm that's all i can think of, 50 gig scsi drive for $90 was a good deal. If i had 50 gig in my 950, i'd use it for hotline serving or web based file sharing with A/ux or some sort of *nix. (even though i've never a 68k flavor of *nix, if it's as stable as osx, it's worth figuring out.) I would want to turn it on with the key and walk away and never look back. is that the 80 pin drive? If so, how do you get that connected to a 50 pin narrow plug? are their 80 pin adapters? aparently that was a dumb question, i searched for 80 pin scsi adpater and they are everywhere. I learned something new today. _______________________ Sgt. Man...I wish I could run A/UX. Both of my macs are AV and unsupported, though. I'll be selling the Q800, so that's out. Too bad for me.{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 4} { My baby: Q660av } Edited by - candyPunk on 14 Dec 2002 17:35:44 |

I wish I could run A/UX too, but every copy I get doesn't work and ends up being a wasted 5-6 hours on the internet. ________________ foetoid, that's (fee-toy-duh) http://www.foetoid.doesntexist.com |

You don't even really need to partition it if you use system picker. I guess you'd probably want a 2gig or less HFS partition and the rest HFS+ for 8.1 (and to make use of it!){ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 4} { My baby: Q660av } |

Thanks everyone. Been out too long, final exams suck. Oh well. Those large Barracudas show up around once every week or two on eBay. The 68-pin version is rare though.Hmm..world record collection of fonts perhaps? Otaku; Specialties in Anime, Macs, Storms Liberated Macs: 6 In progress: 10 |

50gb of fonts? Too bad there's a limited number of fonts the OS can handle at one time (something in the 100s?) -------------------- master of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ and figure-head of the Peoples' PDS Republic -------------------- |

I thought we heard about someone having 1500 fonts for their advertising business. There was a thread where everyone reported in how many they had. Most of us were between 100 and 300, and then someone came along with some friggin ridiculous number. Someone back me up on that - I swear it happened.{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 4} { My baby: Q660av } |

From Apple.com/support/kbase, blah, blah, blah..."Mac OS versions earlier than Mac OS 9 are limited to a maximum of 128 files in the Fonts folder. Mac OS 9 includes support for up to 512 files in the Fonts folder. "Files" include font suitcases and individual font files such as bitmapped (screen) or TrueType fonts. PostScript (or printer) fonts are not included in the file limit. Suitcases can contain multiple font families and can be as large as 16 MB. If you have more files installed in your Fonts folder than the Mac OS limit allows, place individual bitmap or TrueType font files into suitcases, or merge suitcases. To create a suitcase, duplicate an existing suitcase and empty its contents. To merge suitcases, drag an existing suitcase file onto another suitcase file. Do not store fonts within folders in the Fonts folder. Such an arrangement makes the fonts inaccessible to Mac OS.
