Hello, I'm new here. I managed to snag a IIci and IIfx today. The IIci works great, except the HDD had no OS (so I just swapped it), but the IIfx won't boot. Plugging in the power cord and hitting Power does absolutely nothing. I managed to salvage from the two systems, though, a 24-bit and 8-bit video card (both some nifty SuperMac cards), and some "Sigma" NuBUS card with what looks like 2 composite video/audio connectors, and some AT+T chip on it.They're presently sharing a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and are hooked up to a broadband connection, enjoying their new lives out of captivity. :) EDIT: I should have been more clear. It's running along with my other IIci :) The one I just liberated has a nice little 50 MHz 68030 Daystar card, with an FPU onboard. The one I had before has a Daystar Turbo 040 (68040-40 overclocked to 48 MHz, fan-cooled). :) Deven "Epicenter" Gallo - - - http://epicenter.2ya.com Edited by - Epicenter on 13 Dec 2002 22:11:40 |

COOL! I know someone who had a IIci, they really are good little machines... his didn't have any upgrades like that.. except a crazy way to get a CD drive to work...my favorite thing about the IIci is the way that you can put it on it's side... too bad you can't do that to a IIfx :) Official 68k videographer |

my stock IIci is a champ. I wish i my cache upgrade worked. i choose to use that over many other faster nubus macs in my room to test out those 10/100 cards tonight. that startup tone is sooo kewl._______________________ Sgt. BLONG!! hehehe! the sound circutry in my IIcx is fragged, so the internal speaker is non-functional, but, I CAN hook speakers up to it. hehehe. I ultimate plan is to have all my macs hooked up to one sterio system, and then I'd have each one playing a different part of some fancy piano peice! MAUAHAHAHA just like the moog synthisizer... only 3 keys at once!

with the IIfx i had a similar problem, and swapped a power suply from a mac II. After that the IIfx worked, and for some reason so did the II.

Check the power supply for a fuse. For some reason, fuses are usually the first part to go. II2II Intelligence officer in training. |

I've recieved advice that the IIfx refuses to boot without both PRAM Batteries being alive, and they're probably not. I have one reasonably new one in a dead IIsi of mine (well, OK, it's not dead, but it needs to have a new oscillator installed) that I could use. If both are dead, I can always go buy another. I'd try that out before trying to change PSU Fuses. ;DDeven "Epicenter" Gallo - - - http://epicenter.2ya.com |

It's not that hard to change the fuse in the PSU of an IIfx. It's a glass tube type. Take it to any automotive repair store (Like UAP?NAPA) and they should be able to hook you up. Real Men Use 68k |

Oh yes you can! All you need is a stand (I got a pair of adjustable feet from some mail-order house); I ran mine on its side for years. /Mr Lynn The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn’t have a space program. --Larry Niven |

I've been doing the same with my IIfx - works very well and it doesn't take up much space on the desk. Just remember to put the floppy drive side at the top then you have access to the reset button Kami
