Will the airport card in a Mac work with a wireless base station on a windows network that isn't airport? If yes, is there anything special to make it work?

i don't know about the airport card, but i tore apart a dead graphite base station and all it had in it was a small board and a wavelan silver pcmcia card, and the card work in my newton!! the board was shot, you could see a couple of capacitors that were crispy charred.

WiFi is WiFi, all wireless routers (the Airport included) use the standard 802.11b/2.5GHz protocol (same as that used by baby monitors and newer cordless phones) so they're universal. As long as the Windows WiFi LAN is acting as a standard DHCP server, it will work right away away. Even if it isn't you should be able to configure the network settings to make it work. Also, you may want to download this handy little app for finding WiFi LAN's.
Damn...I really need to get an airport card one of these days.
