OK, I have two 630s, one that is upstairs as my NewtMachine, and the other downstairs as a (currently failed) attempt at making a print server. The one upstairs works perfectly, and it's maxed out (36/2 gig, twin Ethernet cards). The downstairs one... well, it worked fine when I got it, after a week or so I took the Ethernet card out of it and let it sit on my basement floor. So yesterday I go downstairs and take another look at the little 630. It's got 36 MB memory, and the 1GB hard drive that I took out of it is sitting on the nearby table. I grab the HD and open up the front of the 630. The drive is IDE and has a good install of 7.5.5 on it. Then I plug in the Quadra. Turning on the monitor, it sits at a gray screen with just the pointer for about 30 seconds or so. Then the flashing disk icon (meaning no OS found) starts blinking... verrrry slowwwly. I didn't give up, and plugged in an external SCSI HD, that has OS 8.0 on it. Didn't work. The only thing that I've done to the Quadra is take out the Ethernet card. Oh, and remove the HD (but I put the EXACT same one back in-exact same way). What could be wrong??? Thanks for any and all help, icebook1 |

i've had the same problem with mine since i got it.. have you tried booting from a CD? try that, and see if the hard drive mounts.. if not, my solution was to clean the contacts where the motherboard plugs into everything. also, try cleaning EVERYTHING with canned air.

Give the logicboard a good bath in distilled/filtered/deionized water at about room temperature. Be sure any cards are removed; bathe them separately. Use compressed air to blow the water out of the slots and ports, then let the board sit until it is completely dry.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |
