I had a computer desk (from Argos(ohh the shame of it)), it didn't survive my house move, indeed it just would'nt fit back together again.

I have been lying (or crouching) on the floor to us my 840av.

I also bought a short while back a CD Holder, this was wood(similar to origional computer desk) with plastic inserts(to hold the cd's). I ripped out the plastic inserts & bought 2 more CD Holders(the plastic inserts were a problem cos they wobbled), & have made 2 "legs" and fixed these to a part of my old desk. The new desk is small, but adequate, the only problem being that the keyboard is perhaps too close to the screen. I may invest in a keyboard tray to fix beneatth the main table section(I built this slightly high anyway).

I need to tidy it up a little & am contemplating covering it with "Fablon"(brand name it is thick sticky backed plastic, often with a wood pattern)

It took me three hours & I am proud as I usually give up on anything "diy".

Oh yes, the back bit(monitor stand) was lower than my front bit & so I used old 720k floppy disks to make the height up!

12 floppy disks = 4cm , in case any of you are keen to do something similar.

I have no idea what 4cm is in other measurements, much as I have no idea when I get a customer who says to me "my bay window is the "standard" size it's 163 inches"

It totally frazzles my brain & I run for the conversion chart.

The best desks are the ones that you build/mod yourself, to fix multiple computers/monitors/printers on!

Cheers coxy, it took me a while to get around to reading this one.

Indeed extra pillars I am picturing for monitor, printer, scanner etc.

Shaktiman runs around north London salivating & searching for spare wood ;-)

ahh... I envy your furniture building abilities! I would not be able to build myself a sufficient desk if my life depended upon it... I usually like my monitor to be on the same level as my keyboard and mouse...

Am I weird??? I also like it when I can have everything within my view... CPU printer... disk drives... any;thing related to my computer I must be able to see... and if I can't work on other things... (math HW is a good reference point) then it's not the very best desk that it can be...
translation: a big fat flat desk...

just togive you a mental image of my desk... whenever I set up a minitower mac... I try to make it look somewhat like the way that they model PowerMacs and all... although... the minitower never quite makes it behind the monitor... :-\

when I'm setting up a desktop computer:

---------
| \
| |
| | <---Monitor (yeah... iknow)
| |
| /
----------
{ } <--- Tilty Base
------
/--------------
/ | <--- CPU... sticks out in front
| | of the monitor

WHOA!!! that's the MOST offtopic I've EVER been! ohwell ;)
