Well, Courtney, my much-loved girlfriend, is getting a brand-spankin' new, 14" iBook (it should arrive today...), and I'm gonna get her 'old' 300 mHz Tangerene Clamshell iBook! It's not a gift- I wouldn't feel right just taking something so cool, so I'm giving her something close to the average going price for these things, but still, I'm psyched! Anyway, I've got a couple of questions: First, this thing has OS 9 on it (soon to be 9.2.x), but I'm sorely tempted to try putting OS X 10.2.2 on here... has anyone tried such a thing? I know I'm gonna need more RAM (it's only got 128 megs at the moment), and the hard drive is gonna get mighty cramped (it's the stock, Rev. B 6-gig drive), but I'm still thinking that OS X would be usable. Any feedback? Second, has anyone here tried to manually upgrade the hard drive on an older Clamshell? I've read up on it, and the task seems a bit daunting, but I can't see a time when I could afford to have MCE (or anyone else) install one for me... Any ideas? Okay, thanks, folks! :-) SpaceBoyOfficial MLA Raconteur AppleBASIC FOREVER! (You and Courtney are still together? Hurrah!) 6 GB for an OS X install would probably be usable, if barely. However, running OS X on an 800x600 display is going to be mighty cramped. I would probably suggest staying with OS 9, if you can afford to do so. (And why'd Courtney go and get a 14-incher? Why not just the 12-incher?) Yeah, well, neener neener to you - I've got an iBook DV (the only one that looked halfway.... buiseness-worthy)Mine has 10.1.5 running, and it works just fine. Entirely usable - in fact, I don't really notice any difference between it and my iMac. And since Jaguar is supposed to be faster, it should run great as well.
