Hi,

After my recent run of web browser changes, I have been wondering what you guys use for your internet access needs.

I am currently running on my Powerbook 180c NCSA Mosaic 2.01. When I first purchased the laptop, I used Netscape 2.02, which I enjoyed but it crashed to often. I then moved onto icab but, like netscape, it crashed to often. But, unlike netscape, wen it crashed, I had to hard restart thr Powerbook. Maclynx was then used, which while nice, was a tad to bare bones for me. That brings me to Mosaic.

I've found netscape and icab to be a bit buggy so I'm trying Internet Explorer 3.0 at the moment.

I was using IE 2.1 but it's a bit too old.

IE 3.0 seems ok but I hav'nt used it that much except for streaming mp3's from shoutcast servers.

With Netscape I get a lot of Socket errors and icab seems to freeze sometimes for no appararent reason.

The errors I get could just be the way my mac is setup.

On my Performa 630, Netscape 4.08 is the only browser of the older breed that runs without constant error messages. Also, it is reasonable fast. iCab was very crash-prone on my machine until the very recent builds (2.81 and 2.82). Although, liking the idea of an up-to-date web broser for 68k, iCab has become slower from build to build. In addition, it looks kinda ugly. I hate that it displays these friggin' little image replacements all the time. You can't turn this off. When Opera got into the Mac business, they announced an 68k version of their browser, but later they quietly abandoned this plan...

My Q630 runs CyberDog baby!!

But then, I use it for FTP not really browsing.

I run NewtsCape on my Newton 2100.

When my 636 was my main Mac, I used IE 3.0 and it worked pretty good, it wasn't 100% compatible with all of the web features and bells & whistles but it did the trick. I also maxed out the RAM and used a RAM disk for the IE Cache - that speeds browsing up.
Now that I am using a 6400/180 as my main Mac I use IE 4.0, I also have IE 5.0 but it is a little slower than I prefer. I've tried Cyberdog, Netscape, iCab, Opera and MacLynx and I've come to the conclusion that I don't care for most of those for their problems/issues with Java. IE dosen't seem to have much trouble with Java, thats the main reason I use it. Java errors are a pain in the neck.

Mosaic is being a bit of a pill now, so Im goign to try IE 2.0B3. Only one other than the early netscapes to fit on a floppy disk. Mosaic is very hardy though, pity.
