I loaded 8.1 on one of my macs but before doing that, I booted from the disk tools disk, formatted the drive and "just because" copied the system folder from the floppy to the drive so it was bootable. Then I rebooted and got an error that the system folder was designed for a floppy only. I click ok and it lets me in. I load 8.1 from the CD reboot and still the same error. Something went awry during this. I checked the system folder and didn't find any odd extensions or control panels. Is there a way of fixing this, short of wiping the disk? It is annoying because it sits there for a long period of time apparently doing nothing before the error. Then I have to click OK and it will continue booting. IIRC, holding down shift didn't help.6360av 32/6.4/8.1 ;) SE 4/2000/FDHD/7.0.1 :) Q840av - Alive! Q650 64/2000/A/UX Woot! I may be nobody here, but in the Dell forums, I've got over 8000 posts :P |

ok... is this a mac that can boot from the CD drive??? if so... do that and format the disk with the tools on the CDotherwise... when you install MacOS8.1... be sure to do a *CLEAN INSTALL* you may achieve this by pressing "options" buttons everywhere you go and seeing where it allows you to put that option in hope this helps Official 68k videographer |

There is a floppy disk tools enabler (or something similar) in the System Folder that needs to be removed. Same thing happened with my 6100.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

In my experience, taking the floppy enabler out didn't fix it.... ________________ foetoid, that's (fee-toy-duh) http://www.foetoid.doesntexist.com |
