Cool liberation! Congratulations. Hmmm... I wonder if the TV Tuner and Apple Video Recorder are scriptable? If so, you could stuff in a big IDE drive, write a bit of Applescript, and the build your own TiVo box. It would be the perfect way to record, watch, and archive all of Apple's "Switching Over" TV ads. It is... I was fooling around with a similar idea a while back and got far enough to determine that scripted recording was possible. A few potential issues, though: 1) How to set up timed execution (need something ala Unix's cron) 2) Can you pass parameters to an AppleScript? Ideally, you'd want a single script that could have start time/channel/duration sent to it. It'd never be TiVo, but could still be a cool hack. <<<john>>> |

3) VidCap frame rates (even at resolutions smaller than 320x240) on this POS hardware (for VicCap, PlayThru is KILLER! ) makes archetypic flipbook animation (done on slate tablets in burnt stick by a Neanderthaler) seem glassy smooth in comparison. jt

Exactly. According to my experience, the Apple TV/Video System absolutely SUCKS for VidCap, (well at least on the LC040, anyway. I'm yet to try it on my shiny new full '040), but on my AppleVision 1710, playthrough absolutely ROCKS.
