what is the difference between a workgroup server and its regular mac cousin. For instance, the Workgroup Server 95 and the Quadra 950. They look the same, and have the same Mobo. What's the difference? What would be the advantages of having a real WG server instead of using its cousin as a server? Simply, what makes a mac server different from the usual, everyday mac. |

Yep. I believe that the WGS's PDS card has an extra Fast SCSI bus on it, but only lets you boot in A/UX.~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

this IS balloon help so...what's A/UX? i've heard people refer to it, but i'm not sure what it is. I meant, what was the difference between macs and their respectable servers in general. FLYINGtoasters |

A/UX is Apple's implementation of Unix for several 68k models.Apple's servers are usually regular models with special software and, sometimes, special software. A/UX was used on some servers in the 68k days. AIX (IBM's implementation of Unix) was used on some servers in the PowerPC days. But I think the main reason for buying an Apple server was AppleShare file and printer servers. II2II Intelligence officer in training. |
