hello all. my first post here because...well...never had any need to post here before. anyway...

i just found a PowerBook 180 in the basement of my apt. it still has the adapter and seems to be intact. it won't turn on or do anything else even after trying this tip:

PowerBook 160, 165, or 180

1. Remove the AC adapter and the battery.
2. Let the PowerBook sit without power connected for 3 to 5 minutes.
3. Reinstall the battery and, if necessary, reconnect the AC adapter.

Note: Steps 1 and 2 will usually reset the Power Manager. However, if the computer still exhibits the same issue, repeat steps 1 and 2 and then follow the step listed below before reinstalling the battery.

1. Using two paper clips, simultaneously press and hold down the reset and interrupt buttons for 5 to 10 seconds. They are located next to the power button on the back panel of the PowerBook.

i also checked to make sure the battery heads were clean...

any suggestions?

First thing to do is get a new PRAM battery. You can get a kit from here, but it's $25. You may be able to find a better deal on Ebay.

You will need to buy a PRAM battery eventually....., but in the meantime try booting without the main battery inserted.

FYI:
the PRAM battery is located on a small daughtercard which requires that you pull the whole PB to pieces entirely to get access to! A standard PC-type backup battery will fit, if you are good at soldering

Yeah, the 180 is a little more difficult to get into than most Mactops...
