how good is vnc for the newton?
im down to just one functional 2100 now (hmm, this connector is really hard to get out, ill try pulling it by the wire. <snap>) but i had an interesting idea for using it at school.
if i can get a modem and a reasonable sized mobile phone (will the newton work with any modern mobiles? smaller being better) and then set up vnc on my imac at home, i can try and play quake in b/w using the popup keyboard. try doing that on a pocket pc!
this could also be used for actually useful thing (*can be*, not will be) such as rpinting stuuf off from hoe to our school printers (assuming they work with the newtons irda).

just how far is this possible? am i living in a dreamworld? again.

im irish, it is my duty to ask stupid questions.

OK, i tried the newtvnc out on my home network, i have a 2000 and although the vnc app worked, it was SLOW... i mean it was almost unusable. I don't want to get your hopes down, it might be quicker on a 2100, i don't know.

here's the link incase anybody reading this doesnt' know where to find it.

well, i probably wont really use it for quake, but would it be too slow for typing direct or remote controlling itunes so i dont have to get up off my bed?
it could also be handy to put up big flashing words on the screen if i have to tell my family something.
and does anyone know about the phone thing?

that itunes idea is great, i think that would work. The issue is that it gets as much data as it needs to draw the size of your newton's display, so everytime you want to move, it has to connect and get that info all over again, but if you put the itunes controller in the corner, i think that would work. hmm... i've been wondering how to remote control itunes from my bed, i was thinking about daisy chaining a keyboard across the room and mount it to the wall.

Big flashes words- i suppose, whatever app you have on your mac, hypothetically would work.

what phone thing?
