Ok... Various discussions have resulted in the decision that the service should be .68k (not .68kmac) in order to stay clear of the 6 Colour Orchard Legal Department.BUT, we need names for the services! Email is Email... but what about our iDisk-type service? iFloppy has been suggested before, but are there other suggestions? Let loose with the names! ~Marchie |

Hmmmm... Our 'Backup'-alike could be called 'Macup'... but that's pretty dumb, and might get Apple on us like rabid lawers. What other old-fashioned backup devices were there? We could call it something like Mo-Drive, for those old Magneto-optical drives that used to be around. I dunno- maybe it'd be best to go with really straight-forward names, and avoid confusing the user with all sorts of cutsey stuff. Any other ideas? SpaceBoyOfficial MLA Raconteur AppleBASIC FOREVER! I'm afraid that "moof": is a registered trademark of Apple, too. JT's ideas are good, how about S'iQuest? ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

I like iQuest, and my second choice would be iFloppy (iFlop?). Definitely nothing with extra punctuation in it, like i'nulli. Make's it harder to say the name to someone and have them write/type it out correctly....if you know what I mean....68k ParaMedic |

Trust me, it is (if you meant .68k). Even "68k" we wouldn't have any problems with, but ".68k" is nicer. ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

Why bother to give it a fancy name at all? This is a military organization. We should call it 68kMLA Remote File Depository or something.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert Macs Liberated: SE (2), LC, IIsi, PB 145b, Quadra 700 (2), LC 575, 6100 (2), PB 5300, PowerMac 5400/200, Performa 6400/180 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

The Problem (IMO) about a military name, is that this is ".68k" and not ".68kMLA" These services are offered to anyone, not just the MLA. Thats just my thought. Although it WOULD sound really cool... ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? Pardon me if I sound like a wet rag on the parade, but wouldn't 68k be a bit too generic? It could relate to Amigas, TI Calculators, etc, etc ad nauseum. Just a thought, but I, personally, like the concept.Mac 68K Psy-Ops "Ya want Windows? Ya can't HAVE Windows!!" |

We can always borrow a trick from the electrical engineers and call it jMac. Or iQuadra, but that would leave out the iII crowd. Or how about honouring the machine which started it all by calling it the i128k. Or maybe it could be mydisk, where the 'm' is silent. Please forgive my insanity. i've always been partial to iFloppy or maybe... YES! iTwiggy! iTwiggy is perfect... even though it wasnt used in a Mac other than in the prototypical phase, Lisa was 68k, was she not? ...what other services are there besides iDisk and Email? i think we should name Email "68kmail" but that's just me. I have been partial to SuperDrive, like the 1.44MB FDD that we have come to know and live anyway, lets consider the nominations closed, and start a poll for ones mentioned here.all in favour? can apple not take legal action against us for SuperDrive? not only is it the trademarked name of their 1.44meg floppy dirve, it resembles iDrive too... just my $.02------------- Special Ops, 578th Performa Division 68k Macs Liberated: 2 ...because no one expects the Spanish Inquisition! |

I don't think that SuperDrive is trademarked, due to the fact that a lot of companies call their LS-120 (120MB Prop. disc/floppy drive) the SuperDrive as well. anyway, VOTE FOR SUPERDRIVE!!! ok, that is becoming kinda farfetched, this is supposed to be something that is not akward, or odd in the eyes of the general public. in a way, some of the names we currently have in the polls are rather odd, and not catchy, anyway, I am sick and cynical, and I am being rather obnoxious, but that comes with being sick anyway. Poll isn't working. Has iFloppy been abandoned? I really like that. The only macs in my house w/ floppy drives are 68k's, and for once since the iMac started the trend, i really will stand for internet. The functionality really is like a floppy disk. iFloppy has my vote { candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 4} { My baby: Q660av } |

The term "68k" is completely legal as far as I can see. From Motorola's history of PR, they are not as quick or prone to get up in arms about such liberal use of acrynoms of thier CPU's.The only one danger is that Apple may try to state that we are engaging in activity which confuses customers, since we have a service name that starts with a period ".68k" and that the "i" services (if we use something like that) is copyrighted by Apple (in the extent possible). But on a side note, if we get trouble, we can always point out there is a program called iUnits for Mac OS that calculates and converts units. So I don't think Apple has a good bargain table there. I will be doing some research on this and see what else I can come up with. Right now I am posting from my Quadra 840AV...which I will play with after hehehe...and my nice RasterOps AV Card. ;-)
